Really crazy, got 3 rare in a row. They were in a group, walking with eachother. The first one I got was a rare. They were pretty easy with my level 20 squad. So, I healed up, went for more xp. BAM, another rare. So F it, I'll shoot for the trifecta lol. Got it. 3 rares in a row. 

Anyway, found them at Inkgill Mere, just north of Binan Village in Kun-Lai Summit. 

You will find these where ever you see molten rock pits and lava flows, along with the Lava Crab. More details on the Lava Crab entry. 

This goes for Lava Beetles as well.

They are where ever you see the molten rock pits and lava. They are very much tied in with the Lava Beetles. You will see them by themselves. But, if you fight a Lava Beetle, you might have 1 or 2 lava crabs fight with them and vice versa. 

I used to pay attention to the hit points to let me know if they were rare or not. I found that this is not accurate. Pay attention to power/speed, 162/135 was uncommon quality. Haven't found rare. 

This sucks. I've got 6 lvl 85s on both sides of this phasing crap. I pass over on the FP, see about 6 or 7. No matter what character I use, they disappear. My server is not crazy about pet battles so there really was no one in the area at all. But, each time, NOTHING. I don't see why they can't just put the whelps or keep them up throughout the phasing. Put down 2 or 3 sets if that's the case. I don't even care if I get a poor quality. I just wanna collect it. This is just ridiculous. 

fighting in darkwhisper gorge, found a silky moth when fighting ash lizard.. hp so low @ 771, not really worth capturing. found another ash lizard with two silky moths.. 954 and 1077 hp, 1077 turned out to be rare

picked one up in scorched plain as a primary, common (1030 hp).. c

i'm still in scorched plain.. came as an extra with a fire beetle

update: 963 hp turned out to be uncommon

darkwhisper gorge.. extra with fire proof roach

came as an extra with a fire proof roach in scorched plains.. picked up the roach but will update if these critters show up as primary pet battles

fought a fire beetle in the scorched plain, got uncommon roach (1073 hp) as an extra on first try

fought ash lizard in darkwhisper gorge between the cave entrance and twilight outpost/encampment, got rare roach (1254 hp) as an extra

just noticed, the first roach was "weakened" to level 20. the rare was weakened to 21. i believe both were 22 at time of capture

1100+ hit points turned out to be uncommon.

Was leveling my onyxian whelpling (dragonkin > magic). Found nothing but poor quality. The whelpling was level 16 and still able to solo that area. All the hit points were between 850 and 950 which I knew to be poor quality from previous captures. The whelp is now level 20 and finally got an uncommon. Preparing for Antari battle. That wyrmling he has is a PROBLEM. 

I found 2 on that ridge. Both were of poor quality. I've checked before with nothing to show for it. I've gone back to find it empty. There weren't any other ppl in the area. It just really sucks that for such a limited spawn rate, they give so many poor quality pets. Same with the Tiny Bog Beast and Sporeling Sprout.  Poor spawn rates, forever poor quality. It's like WoW is really turning into FFXI. I don't wanna wait in that cave for the plant monster again *flashback to why I quit*

This place kinda sucks. I saw NOTHING at all. Not one critter, beast, etc. Got all the other pets in Northrend. One last ditch effort before I stopped bothering, it was FINALLY snowing. Fox kits all over, heavily farmed. I was able to secure 3 - 2 poor quality around K3 and 1 common quality around the Engine of the Makers (big hole in the ground).
