Hub and I went tonight. Got mine on - I kid you not - the third kill. It took another 5-6 minutes to get one for him. Haven't tried it in a fight yet, but he's a fun addition.

I got a common P/P This morning, about 30 min. before the server restart. It was the only one that spawned - I stayed around until after the restart in case I got a chance at a better quality/breed*,  but there were zero spawns. So, I'll stone this (once I get a stone) & consider myself lucky! (I've only been there 5-6 times and never camped the zone.)

 

*Only if more than 1 appeared; I don't want to be greedy!

First time looking for her was tonight. Found a gray in 2nd zone I checked. Then a green in the next zone (was going for the Northrend Trainer achievement) and I thought I was satisfied, but I lucked upon a rare (Grizzly Hills?) on my 3rd attempt. 

 

Funny thing: I sent a PM to my "pet guru" guildmate after I got the gray, asking if these were hard to come by, and should I just wait for a battle stone? But they were busy or AFK (or sick of my questions) & didn't answer & I got my rare!

I can't believe it! Second one found (second trip) was a rare! First time, it was the only pet in the area - all maggots were level 1s. I took the common and thought I was okay with it, but went back the next day. Three maggot pets on top and one oozeling inside, down by the water. I almost squealed when it turned out to be rare. Whispering, "don't kill it," under my breath, I managed to get it low enough to trap without killing it (you only have to do that once to make you freak out). 

 

Update: breed is B/B.

I caught "Moby" during a random stop to fish in a pool (Krasarang?). I debated selling him, considering the rate on the AH at the time, but guildmates encouraged me to keep him, and I'm so glad!

IIRC, I got my rare about 7 attempts in. It seemed to be really early, as I'm 3 hours ahead of sever time and I think it was around sunset locally when they started to spawn. Best thing to do is plan to level in the area or try for rares while you wait for them to spawn.

I've only seen one rare, in at least 50 interactions. Unfortunately, it came with a rare Larva as second, and I'm kicking myself for taking the crab. If you see a rare larva as second, and don't have one yet,, trap it! There are tons of level 3-4 crabs to try for the rare. (I have to keep trying the crabs level 5+ to try for the rare larva. It's endless!+

As mentioned by others, trying to get a rare version is, at least, a good way to level a bunch of 1s to level 2. At least that was the case for me. I probably fought 100 of these to get a rare. On the other hand, my husband's first pet battle ever was a rare Spiny Lizard. It was probably a coincidence, but I finally got my rare in the same area as hub did, along the outer left side of Gromnash Hold. Mine is a pretty heavy-hitting little bugger.

First pet battle in this zone yielded a rare Rat Snake. No such luck with the 2 spiders the area - still stuck with greens.

I gave up a chance at an uncommon Baby Ape to get this rare. I haven't used him/her much -hope it was worth the delay. (I got the uncommon ape the next day, and a rare today, so it's all good.)

This was an effortless rare for me: my first battle in The Hinterlands (yesterday) was a poor or common Cockroach that had a rare 12 Brown Marmot as second. Still haven't managed a rare cockroach, but I love this guy!

 

I wish I'd read the comments here before I started farming the Spirit Crab. I got a rare crab after 20 or so clicks, which had a rare larva along with it. Two rares together, and I didn't have either!! They were the only rares I saw in the 2 hours (90 min.?) I was in the area. I trapped the crab, and really wish I'd taken the larva - now I'm stuck with fighting only level 4-6 crabs, hoping for a larva second, and a rare at that. 

I got my rare today, 5th or 6th session (maybe 20 battles attempts total). I parked an alt there after making the trip with my main a bunch of times and finding no rain. I did quit/kill fornon-rare if I didn't see any other players. Today, the 3rd time I checked, it was raining. My 5th attempt was a rare. 

 

My first capture was a poor. The next battle was uncommon, but came with a rare Long-tailed Mole - the first one I'd seen, so I killed the ape to take the rare. And it stopped raining during the fight! 

I spent about 2 hours my first time trying for this guy, with no luck. Bags full of crap, but no kitty. I went back one day last week (accidentally - got turned around looking for something else) and decided to try again. Started at one end and got the cat before my 20th kill.

 

Got my first Mr. Pinchy last night after ~175 casts. No luck with the pet. Went back today and got it again on my 17th cast. First wish: Magical Crawdad!! I've wanted it forever! (What's funny is that I didn't read up on it at all, so I thougth Mr. Pinchy was the pet. I didn't realize you could fish for hours and just get a chance for the pet. I'm glad I got him tonight, because I don't know if I could have kept up with it! I had similar luck with the Black Tabby Cat.)
