Camped Tanaris for 12 solid hours straight before I saw a sandstorm, so don't get discouraged if you've only been out there a few hours and haven't seen anything. Random weather's a pain in the neck, for sure!

Sandstorm spawned around 2:30 a.m. (Monday morning) on Whisperwind. Tons of these little guys spawned, and continued to spawn throughout the storm. Fought probably 50 of them before I came up with a rare. Lots and lots of poor quality hatchlings.

Caught a rare today, OUTSIDE the enterance of Caverns of Time. I was technically still in Tanaris and he was hovering around the mountains as you fly into the CoT area. Hope that helps. Happy hunting.

Got him tonight at the opening ceremony of the festival. A few things:

First, everything I could find says this starts at 9pm realm time, but didn't actually start until 11pm realm time (Whisperwind--same as my local time, CST). I waited around for 2 hours, 15 minutes.

Also, don't camp the middle, around the statue, with the others. Find a cozy corner of the beach & hold down the sand. Your chances of getting this pet will drastically improve.

Like everyone else, I picked him up in the Bamboo Wilds. Took me a while to find him, but they are there. Got lucky and picked up a rare on my first try. Took forever to capture him, he's pretty tough. Good luck.

Finally caught the rain, after camping Jaguero on multiple servers. Caught him around 4:35pm on Silvermoon. Good luck.

Dropped from a cocoon made with Imperial Silk. Drop rare must be pretty decent, this was only the fifth silk I've made. I suspect the other pet, the Imperial Moth, will be harder to come by. Good luck, y'all. 

Caught the snow and picked him up today. Got an uncommon, which is fine for me right now given how many others are looking two. Seem to be lots of them around K3, but they're also available elsewhere, just not quite as many to be found--at least that's my observation. About 12:15pm on Whisperwind. Happy hunting!

I second all those saying you can pick this guy up as a second. I expected, like many of the others, that he was only available as a first. Not so. Happy hunting! ^.^

This little guy seems to be spawning inside the trunks of trees in Sholozar. Seems it's not just my realm, since others are having this issue too. If you're having this problem, just use /tar to target him and then bind a key to interact with him (Keybindings > Targeting Functions > Interact with Target and bind something not being used, like the period). This will allow you to battle them, assuming you don't get the dreaded "battle area is obstructed" thing. Hope that helps.

Just picked up a rare in Grizzly hills. She was second (or third) to a Grizzly Squirrel. Lots and lots of poor quality fawns, but hung in there and searched for a rare. Found her, she's awesome. Heals, hits like a truck, really good pet. She weakened to 20 on capture (was L21). Her stats look like this:

They're all over the Isle of Spears. The rare for this pet wasn't terribly hard to come by. Maybe four fights and he was mine. He's a great pet, hits quite hard, has good health. I got him at 2:10am server time on Whisperwind. Happy Hunting!!

Picked him up as a second to the Fledgling Nether Ray--he's uncommon, which works for me since he'll never come into play (I think they're kind of gross!). Got him around Manaforge B'naar. Happy Hunting!

There are TONS of these guys at Skald, above Gruul's Lair--where you do the quest to plant the tree in the scalded land. Picked up the uncommon on fight seven. Got my rare after about 15 fights (some of which I forefeit to save time). He's a tough little guy, hits like a truck. My pets nearly died trying to capture him. He was weakened from 20 to 18 on capture. Still quite pleased. Happy hunting!

Found mine in the cave between Zangermarsh & Blade's Edge. Snagged myself a rare on the first go-round! About 12:35pm server on Whisperwind. Good luck, y'all!

EDIT: Okay, I've seen like 7 of these now and 6 of them were seconds to the Scalded Basilisk Hatchlings. The first 5 of those 7, including the one I captured in the cave, were rares. The 6th was poor and the seventh was Uncommon. I was beginning to think they were ONLY available in rare (ha!).

This little guy was a bit hard to come by. I checked several realms where I have characters, but found nothing. So, I chose a realm and rolled a gnome. There they were, got my rare on the second try. Ravencrest US at about 11am server time. Good luck!

Looked and looked, left and came back, finally found one about 12:40am server on Whisperwind. She's common quality, but I'm going to be satisfied with that for the time being, considering how few there are around.

Picked him up near the Toxic Airfield at about 12am server on Whisperwind. Looked for him for a while, found him and he was rare, but all I had were level 15+ pets. I killed him, nearly freaked out, and then remembered that mechanical pets come back after death. Captured him. Love him. Good luck, y'all!

Picked this guy up tonight, first attempt. Love that it's possible to get into MC without a group now. 

Captured an uncommon quality Libram at 6:35pm server time on Whisperwind. Love it!

Thought I'd jump in and comment on the Spirit Crab method. I looked all over for a Larva, found one as a second to a maggot, but didn't capture it (early on, before I realized they weren't just everywhere). Battled my first Spirit Crab and there he was, as a second. Captured him, he was uncommon, can't complain about that. Good luck, y'all!

Camped for about an hour a week or so ago, finally found one (had to beat other campers to her), was poor quality. Happy with that, and unwilling to wait another hour, etc., I went on my way. Then, flying by this morning, I happened to notice there were quite a few of them around. Snagged myself a rare!! 

Pet hits pretty hard and heals herself during the fight, but all in all the fight is managable. Found them around about 6am on Whisperwind.
