Phasing seems to affect this area.  While in the bamboo wilds none show up, however, moving into the Den of Sorrow makes them appear, albeit in the Bamboo Wilds, where I cannot reach them.

Many of these seem to share spawns.  Despite ranging over a wide area I would consistently fight 3-4 in a row that were the exact same battle/rarity.

After searching on and off finally found this pet, there were about 12 spawned.  First time I had looked earlier in the day (8am sever).  Alas no rare.
