Confirmed that it shows up as any other battle pet on your mini map. As whether or not it shows as a secondary, I'm not sure as I haven't done that many pet battles in Northrend to say yes or no.
Npcscan works as long as you disable your pet-addons(pet quality notifier) and don't open up your pet-journal. Doing so will trigger Npcscan and cache the pet beforehand.
