Possible drop from the Foreboding Flame elites in the Cavern of Lost Spirits.
As mentioned, try to keep the damage reduction buff on you by clicking the blue fires throughout the cave. And when fighting them, be sure to interrupt their Spiritfire Bolt as often as you can, as it starts to really hurt if left unchecked.
The respawn on these adds isn't horribly slow, about 7-10min or so for each. But considering it takes only minutes to clear the cave with a group, it can leave you waiting for more, quite often. Especially if there are others farming.
There's only one breed, P/S. Not sure on the drop rate though. My bf got his within minutes and I got mine after about one hour of farming. But we've spent at least another 3 hours farming so far for my friends, with no luck.
A possible drop from the rare spawn, Bufo.
He has several spawn locations along the Croaking Hollow: (66.8, 65.2), (65.2, 69.4), (63.4, 73.0), (65.2, 74.6).
He has roughly 3.5mil Hp and isn't too much of an issue with a group, but his Toxins are lethal at 10 stacks if you can't get him down fast enough or get away so the debuffs drop off you.
There are 3 builds of this frog (B/B, H/P, H/B). It took me quite a long time to get a drop; I lost count of how many times I killed Bufo. Farming the frogs along the shore while waiting for him to spawn is a great way to earn Timeless Coins though.
A possible drop from the rare spawn, Imperial Python.
He spawns in two locations, co-ordinates are: 25.8, 46.4 and 30.6, 36.6.
I'm not sure how the respawn timers work on this guy, as I've killed him in one spawn point, only to see him immediately up again in the second spawn point. I would assume, however, that he shares the same 30min to 1 hour timer that most other rares have on the Isle. He has just under 4mil HP and isn't terribly hard to kill.
I found mine after roughly 8 kills. He comes in 5 possible builds. I got the P/S build (my favorite) and I'm quite excited to begin using him, namely because of how his Bleed abilities will benefit his damage.
A possible drop from the rare spawn, Zhu-gon the Sour.
Co-ordinates are: 37.37 77.29.
Zhu-gon's respawn timer is approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour. He has about 3mil HP and generally requires a group to kill, though he can be solo'd. In the event preceeding his arrival, a large keg appears on the Old Pi'jiu well and lesser Ale's spawn. Ten of these Ales must be killed before Zhu-gon appears. As a bonus, you can kill the Spectral Windwalkers around the area for coins, patterns and other green drops while you camp him.
I found my pet after roughly 15 kills. He has a rather diverse move set that would make him useful against several other types. For example, as an Elemental type with Beast type abilities, he's strong against Critters, which Elementals are generally weak against.
A possible drop from the rare spawn, Leafmender.
Co-ordinates are: 67.30 44.10.
Leafmender's respawn timer is approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour. He has about 2mil HP but he's quite easy to kill. And as a bonus, you can collect a few Timeless Coins and amuse yourself by killing the non-elite Sprites around him while you camp. :)
I found mine after roughly 9 kills. I got the P/P build (which I'm very happy with) but I think the P/B would be a nicely balanced battle pet as well. And the extra HP wouldn't hurt, since these guys have quite low health pools as it is.
To obtain this pet, you must interact with a Neverending Spritewood. They are large purple crystals that appear in the rock walls around the Nice Sprites. These Neverending Spritewoods spawn at (47.90, 73.50), (44.73, 70.45) (45.00, 75.74) and (46.30, 71.00).
What you Should Know:
The Sprites all have about 300k HP and hit for 7-12k each. Do not get overzealous.
- You can only click on the Neverending Spritewood once per day, per toon. But if you're in a group with someone else, you will still get loot from the adds they kill.
- Only the person who clicked the Neverending Spritewood can DPS the adds.
- You have only one minute to kill the adds before they despawn or turn friendly.
- Roughly 1 hour spawn timer.
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY:
You CAN group with people for this mob and take turns doing crystals and DPS'ing the Sprites. The pet is on a shared loot table, so everyone will get to roll on it.
Happy Hunting!
If you're having a difficult time locating these as primary pets elsewhere, just start near Pearlfin Village and follow the river up through the zone. And, as mentioned earlier, aiming for the S/S build of this frog is definitely worth it.
I would suggest hunting for your rare Garden Moth around the same time you're hunting for rare Wild Jade/Golden/Crimson Hatchlings. These moths are plentiful as primary's in the area around The Arboretum where the Hatchlings spawn.
I used alts on 4 different servers for this and it still took 7 hours to get the breed I wanted. >_<
After the initial spawning, they seemed to respawn quickly as I cleared them - sometimes immediately after another was killed. But after 1-2hrs, I was lucky to get 2 or 3 in the cellars every 2 hours. Only 3 other people showed up on 2 servers (I had multiple H/H rares left up for them to grab). Then somewhere between 5-7am PST, the adds all respawned in huge numbers. Not sure if this is typical.
A few notes about this pet:
- Unlike a few other rare/event spawns that appear alone, these guys are accompanied by 2 other random adds, so be sure to have a decent team on hand.
- The event started about 1 minute after 9pm PST, so don't sweat it if lanterns don't appear in the water exactly at the start time.
- I've read that a second batch of adds spawn at the events closing, this is not true. I've waited an additional 20min after the event ended and I have never seen another one spawn.
- And as always, if you have alts on multiple servers, camp out as many servers as you can. I've found several low to medium population PvP servers that have little to no pet competition.
Update:
After only 2 weeks I got very lucky and caught a rare quality H/H breed on Cho'gall at the same time that my bf caught a rare quality B/B breed on Alexstrasza. I was hoping for H/S, but I'm more than happy with my little turtle tank :D
I've spent a few days trying to find one of these guys in rare quality with H/P build. I was full-time camping a Baby Ape on multiple servers at the time and would log over to check for Bog Beasts every few hours.
What I noticed: After clearing through them, it takes 4-6hrs before they start to respawn. In my own experience, the best hunting time was early morning, as there seemed to be more there than any other time of day. Fly a wide circle around spawn area for stragglers.
Took 2 days and 5 rain storms to catch my rare.
Tips:
1. Use toons on multiple servers.
2. Camp full-time on one toon and check others every 2-3hrs.
(I got 2 extra rainstorms this way).
3. Go camp on a different server if no rare is caught in rainstorm on main.
4. Be considerate.
Random: I noticed rain every 6-12hrs. And I've read otherwise, but Apes despawn immediately when rain ends.
Oddly enough, saw 7 other rare pets during my last storm.
Good luck and happy hunting!
I agree that killing other battle pets seems to help spawn these guys. I camped the spawn point for a little over an hour before 2 other collectors came and sat on top of me. Not wanting to be disappointed if I lost out in a mad dash against them, I just logged to an alt on a lower pop server.
Did a /who to confirm I was essentially alone in the zone then went around killing all battle pets in 5min incriments and camping the spawn point for 5min after. Got a rare P/B in under 30min.
I had horrible luck trying to find a Rare. Spent over 6hrs farming Spirit Crabs and running around engaging every critter lv5 and over.
Finally got frustrated and just plugged all the spawn point co-ordinates into TomTom and I found a rare on my second "lap". However, I made sure to kill all the non-combat larva/spider/rats at every waypoint before moving on.
If you're having as bad of luck as I was, I highly recommend using TomTom to maintain your sanity.
Finally caught the rare breed that I wanted. I tend to avoid both of the available builds as much as humanly possible, so I was unsure which breed would be better.
My guess, however, is that since there are multiple healing abilities and no abilities that self-harm and require a larger health pool, the 3, 13 breed with higher speed/attack and lower HP should be more beneficial - despite having fewer stat points used.
I had a VERY hard time catching a rare version of this pet. Spent 2 days in Hyjal scouring the Ascendan't Rise area, Sethria's Rest area, and fighting almost every other pet I found in hopes that I would get him as a secondary. Finally found one as a secondary to a Fire Beetle at the Throne of Flame (lava pit area near Ascendant's Rise). Not my "ideal" breed (12,22), but at this point, I'm not hunting for another one lol. Good luck to all in their search.
I HIGHLY recommend using TomTom and not stationary camping these. I had 9 alts scattered around Northrend to camp her. Took 2 days to catch my first one at 56.7, 39.3 in Zul'Drak. Was Uncommon quality.
Final Update: I've now seen 9 Unborn Val'kyr in 2 days while flying around herbing/mining on an alt. Definitely the way to go.
Still enjoying my time in Texas - very much missing my own computer though!
