I remember my first pet. I was a lowbie night elf hunter, just going to Darnassus for the first time. I stopped off at a vendor who had a Hawk Owl. I didn’t know what it was or what it did, so my husband (who got me into the game) explained it to me. I thought it sounded kind of cool, but I complained about the price - 40 silver, and it doesn’t really DO anything? I wasn't going to get it, so he bought it for me. I loved it and I kept it out all the time. It seemed very huntery to me.

I later got a chicken egg, but it pretty much sat in my bank. I couldn’t have it taking up a precious bag slot, but I also couldn't get rid of it. The first pet that I just HAD to have as soon as I saw it was the Spirit of Competition. I rarely PVP (my family says it makes me curse too much – lol) but I did battlegrounds until I got it. Then I set my sights on Chuck (I thought he was incredibly cute), and my daughter still teases me about how I squealed when I finally got him. When vanity pets no longer took up bag space, I became a pet collector in earnest. I think back on that 40 silver that I thought was too much… oh the gold I have spent on pets since then.

I am so grateful to my wonderful husband for getting me my first pet and very many more over the years. I think he has invested almost as much into my collection as I have. Thank you, Baby
