You can rename your own pets. Maybe he gave a special pet it's unique name?

Definitely The fastest way is as already posted the tamer dailies in pandaria. I level my pets to 23 or 24 and do the rest with my lvl 85-90 alts in the valley of 4 winds. If using a hat and 1 or 2 biscuits it's a very quick method. Important is just to do the dailies every day.

Against Aki's Dragon the best pet by far is Clockwork Gnome with his ability Build turret. The additional damage from the Dragon's Call Lightning will take out the Dragon as well as half of the next pet. To level a lowbie pet use it against the Cricket, as this does not do much damage.

My first one on my main was poor quality. So first thing I did when I reached 90 with one of my alts was to push reputation with Sho. But no chance - 2nd red cricket was poor quality too :/
