That's crazy the same thing happened to me! I also held tons of bags to open on patch day. I wonder if that was what happened. It doesn't seem ban worthy though. I've never been banned at all and don't break any rules so I was very confused as to what happened!

I think Epic Pets will battle, but it will be different to raise them to Epic (Since stoneing 500+ pets would be freakin insane) I would be fine with something along the lines of all rare battle pets gaining access to another 5 levels, then at 30 instead of gaining a new skill they become Epic and ...

In the sha touched areas the bones etc are perfectly normal and do not indicate a too low skill level.

They need to buff stone drop rates because it's just not worth it at the current rate right now. Hour+ a day for 0-1 stones? Not feeling it Blizz.
