I tried the method suggested here - using a level 80 on a server that I have not visited since Pandaria. Logged out, and then came to Warcraftpets and logged out here as well and logged back in, but still only getting the 2 pets showing.

anything over 3 is definitely unncessary. And you have 2 options right now - either (a) delete the excess pets or (b) once MoP drops, cage and sell it on the AH. I will be doing this as well on Feathermoon alliance. I am someone who highly dislikes the PvP part of the game, but am willing to do 50 of these battles (expecting most fails) only so I can get the number of battles needed to get the pet.
