I managed to get one on my 2nd kill....however, I also got a dreadmaw to drop at the same time. Should of screenshotted it, but didn't want to jinx my luck!

I had done not a single quest in the zone, I found 2 spawned in the SW corner of the area by some lava....One was P/P or other was HH....I left the H/H for someone else...

Yes killing the first pet will make it go away. However, two things. You must kill all the other wild pets in the area...just nuke em or hit with a weapon. Second, they stop spawning around 8pm or so....so start in the morning or afternoon to farm. I got my first rare quickly, second followed fairly...
