Support resolved this issue today by sending Gerald via in-game mail.

Just a heads-up. Just completed the Family Battler of Zaralek Cavern achievement today and its bugged. Gerald is not rewarded on completion of the achievement, others are reporting this on wowhead too. So far, Blizzard support has been very unhelpful with me and said they cannot help with achievemen...
