I'd counter Jade Owl with [pet]Emerald Proto-Whelp[/pet]. With dragonkin strong against magic types, [ability]Breath[/ability] and [ability]Proto-Strike[/ability] would be a solid attack combo, leaving two healing options in slot 2 for survivability.
