My current favored team for pet battles is a searing scorchling, a moth, and a ghostly skull. You might want to consider the feline familiar. Unlike most kitties, it has an attack that isn't a beast type - onyx bite, magic type.

I like my crow too. And although it isn't a flying type it has flying attacks - my nether faerie dragon is also fantastic.

if say you have 100 HP and they have 1000 HP, after Life Exchange you will both have the same amount, which'd be.. uh. 500ish? There might be something I'm missing; at 85+, the exp you gain is at least worthwhile due to how many you can do. However my level 11 shaman, is getting 79 exp per battle - no way is this even remotely near an 'acceptable' level of exp to make it worthwhile. This is battling pets in the zone she sho...

Keep in mind if you have a bit of gold, you can exp-lock yourself at a very low level and do all the startzones before they go gray. It's very easy rep and doesn't take long; it got me near to exalted on my home server before I hit level 11.

I suggest crating up all but one of your rares that you can, and stuffing them in your bank, if you really, really want to keep them. Then you still have them, but you get a lot of spaces free on your journal. Mail them to an alt, and stuff them in -their- banks. Squirrel away all your duplicates yo...

I went a solid week without a single battlestone from any of my bags (though I did get the darkmoon eye). And then a couple days ago I got five or six different battlestones. Nothing again yesterday (though I'm holding off for a hotfix possibly today). All this tells me is it's very random.

any sign anywhere on WHEN this hotfix is going live, or if it has already? I have a few pets I wouldn't mind leveling, but I don't want to waste a day if it might be today.
