A guildie sent me a mechanical squirrel shortly after launch. The one that got me into truly collecting was the White Kitten, though. At first I collected only rare drop and quest pets--when they became learnable I picked up all the vendor and recipe pets shortly after.

Ha, never mind. My first pet was the Sea Pony! Didn't expect him to show up so fast.
