also, how do the btag invites work here? to people just post their btag or is there a whisper function?

You can set it up to show your Btag in your user link on the left when posting. Otherwise yes, people will just post it. Also, if you're referring to the original CE pets, they're on the do not trade list so you'll have to check eBay or another third party site.
