Legion Alpha/Beta - datamined info

Post by Quintessence » November 21st, 2015, 1:07 am

Update: Full list of [url=http://www.warcraftpets.com/wow-pets/unlisted/]Legion datamined pets[/url].

-----------------------------

Alpha/Beta is still closed and not open yet, however Wowhead's been busy datamining the data from the CDN (Content Distribution Network).

General disclaimer - still VERY early beta, a lot could change and some pets might be placeholders and/or not make it into the final version of Legion.

15 new pets discovered so far! No battling information on them yet, just spell details.

Still a nice piece of info! :) Thanks, Quintessence.

Some of my wishes and wild guesses:

Glad to see more enchanted items. Probably they're related to the new Dalaran, however, I'd like to see new Enchanting or Inscription pets! [EDIT: Enchanting confirmed, the recipes' source is yet to be confirmed.]
It also seems that we have a new Blue Dragonflight member. :) A good Dragonkin is always precious, but what about the other flights, especially green and red ones?
Cephalopod means a squid. Probably just a Syd's rework. [EDIT: Nope, another model!]
Stormborne Whelpling gives a Stormwing's texture to the mind, but maybe is it really a Vrykul-related whelp? One doesn't exclude another. [EDIT: Called it! :D]
Nightwatch Swooper seems to be a WoD model batling, which about I've talked about some weeks ago. :) [EDIT: There is an owl icon now. No idea.]
Fetid Waveling -- Something from an Eye of Azshara instance? If there was no "Fetid", I'd think about the WotLK elemental model, but with that it seems to be just a green/brown recolour of Puddle Terror. [EDIT: A common water elemental, but with RGB blue colouring.]

It's also funny how they use Nuts' name as a placeholder. :D

The new rabbit models look amazing! I would love for them to give all the rabbit models and upgraded skin...looking at you [pet]Darkmoon Rabbit[/pet]. I almost always have my rabbit out, I would love for an updated skin.

Didn't notice these rabbits! Apparently they've [ability]dodge[/ability]d from my sight or escaped into the [ability]burrow[/ability]. ;)

I've thought about the [pet]Darkmoon Rabbit[/pet] too. Mehehe.

I hope it's extended to some other critters aswell, those [pet]squirrel[/pet]s' pointy cheeks used to scare me. :o
And what may the new Dalaran offer to us without a new [pet]Giant Sewer Rat[/pet]? :D

Here's a full list with abilities at a glance, including tamer pets: [url=http://legion.wowhead.com/petspecies?filter=cr=4;crs=7;crv=0#petspecies]http://legion.wowhead.com/petspecies?filter=cr=4;crs=7;crv=0#petspecies[/url].

You can switch to gallery to see the models. It should update with each new build.

Master Tamer Wyrmy is very interesting because he's an npc tamer as well as a battle pet. Maybe we fight his pets like a normal tamer, and then he'll pull a 'I'll take you on myself!', after which maybe you fight his battle pet version? That would be a fun innovation for tamers if so.

*edit* here is Wyrmy's dialogue text:
[url=http://legion.wowhead.com/quest=40337/master-tamer-wyrmy]Wyrmy is hungry! Wyrmy wants to eat your squishy things. How about we make our squishy things fight, and winner gets to eat the loser's squishy things![/url]
Most of the other tamer pets look like they're balanced for standard 3-per-team tamer fights. Nothing particularly interesting there.

However a couple of the pets (e.g. Heliosus and the mini-Omnitron pets) have this tantalizing little bit of info attached:
Vendor: Mr. Burns

Puzzle pet for Adventure Mode in 7.0
Mr. Burns is a Worgen npc added in 7.0, and otherwise I have no idea what this 'adventure mode' might be.

I'd see him in a Pandaren Spirits manner, where it looked like that, but sadly without any RP comment.

Seeing his model, I just wonder why he doesn't toss a book from on his head!

These kind of pets are likely to change I hope? Sunny is a copypaste of Farmer Nishi's pet / Singing Sunflower.

Possible. But it's also ok if not every tamer pet is innovative and new. There's 2 other pets to help make the fight distinct from Nishi. And also there needs to be some more basic entry-level content among the early tamers.

One of the big mistakes from WoD was assuming that the Menagerie would be a progression from the endgame pet content in MoP. However since the Menagerie was in our garrison, it drew in a lot of newbie pet battlers. That was great from the perspective of getting new people to try pet battles, however the Menagerie was way too hard for them. Hence there were massive complaints and they had to nerf it, which consequently took away the 'endgame' pet PvE content for WoD (until Tiny Terrors in Tanaan in the final content patch).

So I think it's necessary to have some more basic pet PvE content in the early parts of Legion, and many of these tamer pets look like just that.

Of course we'd really like there to be some legitimately difficult 'endgame' pet PvE, which is as yet not apparent. "Puzzle pet" and "Adventure Mode" give me a bit of hope, but we really need to see more.

Latest Alpha build: 20773

Not much has been updated in the way of new pets. However, the Menagerie NPCs moved into Breanni's shop in New Dalaran. Still selling items and pets for Pet Charms (including the new pets coming in Legion, listed below).
  • 200 for Fel Piglet
  • 100 for Nightwatch Swooper
  • 50 for Plump Cephalopod
The weekly quest offered is still tied to WoD (defeat 5 *Draenor* trainers for 10 leveling stones). Hoping we'll get a Legion equivalent of this though.

Since garrison building perks aren't carried over, the reduced CD on Revive Battle Pets is gone. It's now back to the standard 8 minute CD. Draenic Trap gone as well. Could easily bake the perks in, or offer a small quest/achieve to unlock them, but we'll see if that's the direction the developers want to go.

Edit: Oh yea, and [url=http://legion.wowhead.com/item=134860/peddlefeets-buffing-creme]Buff Peddlefeet[/url].

Edit #2: Perculia found some [url=http://legion.wowhead.com/quests=7.-394?filter=cr=35;crs=7;crv=0]new dailies[/url] that reward Pet Charms.

There's 9 tamers: 8 plus Master Wyrmy. And there's currently 24 tamer pets that fit into 3-pet fights, plus Wyrmy who is likely a solo pet fight. So it's very consistent with there being 8 regular tamer fights plus Wyrmy as the intro tamers for Legion, and it looks like it's balanced precisely like the WoD zone tamers (rare-quality pets, normal stat budget, probably very easy).

Heliosus and the Omnitron pets are more interesting and it's not clear how or when we would get to fight them.

They're kinda bothering if you ask me.
Their attributes are conradicting themselves.

All are marked as vendor pets, yet Heliosus and Electron are not tameable.
Rocko, Arcanotron and Magmatron are "companions only", yet they have offensive abilities.

Yes, they're clearly unfinished and placeholder-ish. They may not even make it into the final release. But there's not much else to get excited about so I'm reading into a bit.

I don't suppose someone on PTR can let me know if the new Fox (Vulpes) pets are larger (Ie Alpine Foxling sized) or pointlessley tiny (ie Fox Kit Size)

I love the large fox and really wish we'd get a red version that size.

[url=https://twitter.com/liopleurodonic/status/676086310000529408]Lio discovered[/url] that you'll be able to search the Pet Journal for pets with a specific ability in Legion.

Example: Type in "dodge" and the journal will come up with results of all pets that have the [ability]Dodge[/ability] ability.

Awesome quality of life change or possible annoyance?

For now, I think it's a great addition...until I name one of my pets the same name as an ability. Then it might get annoying lol.

I like it.
Quite recently I've sent such a request to designer of one of the addons.
I wonder what does he think now if he can see it.

Though I guess this won't include more "meta" categories like the weather effects or status (Poisoned, Webbed, Chilled, etc). I'd like to see them too.

After further testing of the ability search feature in the journal, there's a small issue with how it's currently designed that could be annoying.

Some pet ability names include words that are used elsewhere in game, specifically for zones. Search for [ability]Burn[/ability] and you'd expect to see results for Burn right? [ability]Deep Burn[/ability] pops up as well, and I guess that's ok since it's similar enough.

But then you also get results like Ash Viper, which doesn't have any type of "burn" ability. It only shows up because it's from the Burning Steppes. Lurky also appears in the filter since it's from Burning Crusade.

Similar problem with Howl and Howling Fjord.

I've submitted a suggestion that for ability searches, it should require quotation marks ("Burn" vs. Burn) so that the return is specifically just pet abilities. To me, that's just the simplest fix.
