If it's somebody you trust and they trust you, they could cage a pet to give to you. Then you can level it, cage it and pass it back.

i swap a friend a few of my level 25s every week and use stones and tamers to level up their level 1s., just finished helping one friend get all their cageables to 25 now working on another persons collection.

just a reminder; you must first level a pet to 25 on your own to be able to un-cage level 25 pets.

Seriously, I have a dedicated toon who holds all of my BOA pet stuff, most of which are stones. At first, I told myself I'm saving stones and charms for new pets. But now I can't bring myself to use the leveling stones, not when there's plenty of time to do trainer rounds and level new pets that way. So they just pile up slowly. I'm seeing how much I can accumulate just by doing the easy menagerie dailies.

I wouldn't worry about it too much IMO. The rarity battlestones persisted through MoP and WoD, so I don't see why the leveling stones wouldn't persist through WoD into and through Legion.

IIRC, the Menagerie NPCs that moved to Dalaran on Legion Alpha are still selling the leveling stones. It'd be weird if they still sold them in the next expansion but we couldn't even use them, so I'm taking that as a tentative confirmation that the battlestones will continue to function as they do now. (Disclaimer: Things could always change...but low chances they will in this case.)

I managed to reach 500 stones on one char.
Right now I have 462, I sometimes level up some 20+ but family-stones are priorities.

Sometimes opportunities are not expected and kind of subtle.
Once I asked on chat for something related to the garrison -- a trader quest or enchanter's font, it doesn't matter.
A person invited me and I visited them. I noticed that they had a pet wandering around -- a lvl 1 Teroclaw Hatchling.
So while I was giving them thanks for the invitation, I proposed to exchange their 1 lvl Tero for my 25 lvl one, explaining that I can level pets with no effort.
They wanted to refuse, thinking that I'm too generous, but then accepted the offer.
