Auction House Confusion?
Can someone please explain the difference between the "Companion Pets" category and the "Battle Pets" category in the Auction House? It looks as if the same sort of pets are in each category. How does a person decide where to purchase a pet? Are the qualities different between the two tabs?
Re: Auction House Confusion?
Battle Pet category is for pets you have caged.
Companion Pets is for unlearned pets (the item that teaches you the pet)

Re: Auction House Confusion?
There really is no difference. Certain pets can only be sold in caged form, because the item that teaches the pet is BoP. The rarities in your log will be the same if you learn a "pre-owned" caged 'battle' pet vs. if you buy the vanity item that teaches a 'companion' pet.
I think Blizz only made two lists so battle pets could be sorted by family etc. Be sure you check both lists if you're in the market for a BoE vanity item pet. The Whelplings for example. prices may vary from one list to the next for the exact same pet.
Hope this helps

Re: Auction House Confusion?
The battle pets I believe you can see their stats, which some people are after certain breeds. If you just want the pet to have the pet, just pick the pet your looking for, do an AH search for the pet and pick the lowest priced one.
Re: Auction House Confusion?
Yes, and additionally, all pets in the "companion pets" section will be level 1, but in the "battle pets" section, you will find pets from level 1-25, in case you want to pick up an already leveled pet. That's why some pets are more expensive in the battle pets section, because they've been leveled up.Tahsfenz wrote:The battle pets I believe you can see their stats, which some people are after certain breeds. Thanks for all the clarification! This helps a lot!
Re: Auction House Confusion?
Rarity plays a part as well...
Re: Auction House Confusion?
Rarity between the two sections can be misleading, though. The item that teaches the Mulgore Hatchling is Rare in the Misc/Companions, but the Mulgore Hatchling pet learned from it is Uncommon. The Tiny Crimson Whelpling (item) is Common, but you'll learn a Crimson Whelpling that's Rare. Don't expect that the rarity of the item in the Misc/Companions section will be the rarity of the battle pet. But if you purchase a pet from the Battle Pet section, the rarity you buy will be the rarity of your new pet.
To summarize: The items in Misc/Companions tell you what pet you'll learn, but that's about it. They give no details about the battle pet whatsover. The pets in the Battle Pets section give you all the details about the pet you're getting.

I think this is correct.Jordicus wrote:Battle Pet category is for pets you have caged.
Companion Pets is for unlearned pets (the item that teaches you the pet)
The difference between the 2 is the caging action and the fact that in battle pets, you see the pet, and not necessary the item that learns the pet.
In companion pets you always find the item that learns the pet. Although they sometimes have the same name, it is not neccesary like that. for example to learn Whiskers the Rat, you get a 'rat cage' item.

Re: Auction House Confusion?
I have actually seen the tuskarr kite listed and battle pet breedid addon actually listed battle stats on it even tho this is not a battle pet at all so be warned
however in 5.2 PTR notes says:
The Tuskarr Kite has a new set of abilities that's more appropriate for a Tuskarr Kite.

so they might just make it a battle pet

Re: Auction House Confusion?
It wouldn't surprise me that the Tuskarr Kite becomes a battle pet. The Dragon Kite did.
