Help please
After a very long hiatus of almost a year I am lost as to pet collecting and the new pet info. Can all pets be summoned to your side even if you dont have them for battling. I am alos curious as to some of the better pets to collect. Keep in mind I dont have MoP yet. Any and all help will be highly appreciated.

All vanity pets, including the new ones, can be summoned to your side when you are out and about.
You can collect all the new pets, too, except the ones that actually rely on you being on the new continent.
As for the best ones to get... well, aren't we all here because we want them all? Really, there's no need to focus on specific pets for casual play - certainly since you can't access the Pandaria master tamers yet. Just collect what you don't have, and level your favourites.

The Spawn of Onyxia, not part of MoP, is a great pet to start with. I used this one to help level my other pets through battling, the heals + damage are a big help. Any mechanical you can get your hands on would be good too, you can pick one up in Dal if you don't have an engineer to make one.
For my third I would go with a beast-type since there seems to be a lot of critters out there that you will need to beat!

Also when you get a couple of pets to level 14 go to caverns of time and get an Infinite whelping or 2 make sure they are rare. I use those two almost exclusively for leveling other pets.
You can get a couple decent mechanicals from the toy vendors. Also make sure you do the Children's week dailies and get a few pets that way as well.

Re: Help please
Pets in the wild have several levels of "Rarity", these are poor, common, uncommon & rare. Most hardcore collectors eventual goal is to have all of their pets be "Rare" quality.

Re: Help please
Collecting is the same, for the most part, except now there's a "battle" component to it. We have a great guide on how to get started in Pet Battles here. Hopefully it covers and answers most of your questions!
As for collecting "rare" (blue) quality pets, it's not mandatory but the higher quality pets do help make battling a bit easier. They have better stats than lower quality pets. (Side note: The quality of pet does not always match the quality of the item that teaches the pet, so while the item may be blue, that doesn't necessarily mean you'll have a blue quality pet in your collection.)

I read that after you get a pet to lvl 3 you get a quest from aubrey to go fight pet tamers. I have my pet to lvl 3 and havent gotten a quest. I have been away for awhile and I dont have MoP.
Re: Help please
A fun pet is the Darkmoon Zeppelin you get from the Darkmoon faire. It's good for battles but as I love monkeys I got the monkey first.

If I remember correctly you have to have MoP to be able to do the pet tamers.

My 2c
If you have a toon on both sides of the fence, make sure you pick up the Pet Tamer quests on both Ally and Horde at the same time as you do them. You will be able to carry both and complete both on any toon (the quests are account wide). It will also give you access to twice as many rewards, enabling you to improve your collection quicker.

Re: Help please
You are not supposed to need MoP to do the pet tamers. I myself, did not get the expansion until long after having completed all of the quests through Cataclysm (for both factions). I was even able to get the quest to go to Pandaria and fight there long before I finally got it. It is a bug that some people are unable to do the quests without having MoP.Dragonwizard wrote:Tinkerill wrote:I read that after you get a pet to lvl 3 you get a quest from aubrey to go fight pet tamers. Tinkerill, have you tried getting the free 10-day MoP trial? While you should not have to have MoP, you appear to be one of those people affected by the bug and that might be a workaround if you cannot afford to get the expansion itself. Thinking about it, I had gotten the free trial on one of my accounts at around the time I started doing the pet battle quests so that might be why I did not experience this issue.
