Picking which Celestial first come 5.4?
Definitely a hard choice, but I am leaning to Xu-Fu, Cub of Xuen as my choice for the first win.
Note: You get 2 ekstra Celestial coins on first win, allowing you to walk home with a Celestial on the first week.
Xu-Fu seems to have the most unique model of all the Celestial pets, plus a pretty strong move set. Prowl+Feed is going to be powerful for survival. Or you could buff the Spirit-claws instead, bringing Moonlight of your own, or having another pet bring it for a powerful attack always hitting. Xu-Fu should be popular with those feeling their attacks miss constantly.
From what Im reading, Xu-Fu is P/S breed, with 1400hp, 297 power, 281 speed as a lvl 25 rare pet.
Im hearing mentions that Zao and Chi-Chi are both P/S breeds as well. No word on Yu-la.

Definately Zao, Calfling of Niuzao, just for pure cuteness! I haven't even looked at stats but I know I want him first!

Yu-La 25 lvl 1237 hp, 305 power, 305 speed
Chi-Chi 25 lvl 1441 hp, 297 power, 273 speed
Zao 1 lvl 155 hp, 12 power, 11 speed
I started from Zao on ptr and may be will start from him on life realms.

Im impressed with Xu-Fu's stats, definitely looks like a monster! Plus not too many points wasted in speed which makes Prowl even more attractive. Not sure Im happy with Yu-La, seems rather fragile with too many points in speed. Chi-Chi on the other hand gives me a feeling of a B somewhere there :/
Re: Picking which Celestial first come 5.4?
I was just pondering which one to pick first. In pure terms of cuteness, I think Zao is my winner! But yeah--the Xuen cub looks like the most interesting moves. I guess we'll see how I'm feeling the day of.

Same! I'm not looking at abilities at all, I just want the cute lil guy following my Tauren around.Mehetabel wrote:Definately Zao, Calfling of Niuzao, just for pure cuteness! I haven't even looked at stats but I know I want him first!

Another thing of note. 5.4 introduces the Crazy Cat Man/Lady title, requiring you to have collected 20 unique cats. If you dont have any tcg or blizzstore cats, then you will need Xu-Fu as your 20th kitty.

This. Xu-fu for me since I'm an achievement addict!Luciandk wrote:Another thing of note. 5.4 introduces the Crazy Cat Man/Lady title, requiring you to have collected 20 unique cats. If you dont have any tcg or blizzstore cats, then you will need Xu-Fu as your 20th kitty.
Re: Picking which Celestial first come 5.4?
Matching up Chi-Chi's new stats with other pets, they appear to be a dead ringer for breed 10, aka P/B. Awful.
Yu-La seems to still be P/S still like the initial data I had come across and when looking at Papazol's numbers.
Likewise Zao still appears to be P/S still.
So only Xu-Fu had a truly significant rebalancing statwise to P/P and capping at 333 power to make his spirit claws scale extremely well.
Crush which scales the same as Spirit-Claws, hits for 494 damage a hit on a likewise 333 power Netherspace Abyssal, with the significant difference that under Moonlight, the spirit-claws move -ALWAYS- hits

And Prowl+Feed will be 1100 damage + 1100 heal, assuming he's below 50%. You'll see it coming a mile away, but if you can't stop it, youch.

Do tell me what you think of the other pets, Poofah. You have some good pet-fu.Poofah wrote:And Prowl+Feed will be 1100 damage + 1100 heal, assuming he's below 50%. You'll see it coming a mile away, but if you can't stop it, youch.
Re: Picking which Celestial first come 5.4?
Xu'Fu is going to be the most influential by far -- Feed is numerically far stronger than any comparable ability, and coupled with Prowl it's obscene. It's slow as molasses and telegraphed 2 turns in advance, but if you can't avoid or mitigate it you're going to lose. You don't have to worry about avoidance for PvE purposes, so he'll be extremely good there as well.
It's ironic that Moonfire+Spirit Claws is also so strong, and yet it's not his best moveset.
Chi-Chi has some fun potential, but nothing super strong. Wild Magic+Feign Death is a convenient way to start a multihit-centric team, and works well with Fire Quills. Tranquility is neat because the healing can push you back over 50% for the Flying passive. However Ethereal is not very impressive -- this would be so much better as Dodge/Evanescence due to the Flying passive. Consequently Chi-Chi can't abuse his speed to get extra turns the way Scalded Basilisk Hatchling can, for example.
Zao is sort of similar to Xu'Fu with his numerically strong but telegraphed abilities, but nowhere near as strong. He needs 3 turns to do less than Xu'Fu can do in two (Wish+ either Niuzao's Charge or Dominance+Horn Gore, which is roughly 700 healing plus 800 damage).
Yu'La's moveset is kind of a jumble due to the 1 round cd on Jadefire Lightning, which basically forces the slot 1 to be Breath or else you'll be cooldown locked. This is too bad, because an AoE pet with a shield and Life Exchange would be very interesting. I personally don't see much use for her, but I suspect that someone will make an intensely annoying Wish team with her Celestial Blessing+Life Exchange moveset.

Re: Picking which Celestial first come 5.4?
Spirit Claws remains the move to pick on Xufu, even if you bring Prowl+Feed. Because you can simply provide Moonlight from another pet, as it lasts 9 turns.
Also Moonlight would make Feed even more ghastly thanks to the +25% bonus to healing!
I think Celestial Dragon would make an excellent companion pet to Xu-Fu. Able to provide Moonlight, buffing the damage with roar and healing itself.
Alternatively Moon-Moon, using its Moon-Fang buffed by howl and providing Moonlight with Moon Tears.

Re: Picking which Celestial first come 5.4?
True, and Moonlight would help against one of Xu'Fu's weaknesses. Celestial Dragon in particular could be very good with Flamethrower, since he kills the flyers and mechs that Xu'Fu fears, while Xu'Fu is good against the humanoids and critters that are trouble for the dragon. The dragon is only ok by himself though, so you might get more mileage by slotting an objectively more powerful pet here instead of going for the synergy. I wouldn't be afraid to play Spirit Claws without Moonlight at all, as 28 base damage with 80% accuracy is still a very good spammable.
Re: Picking which Celestial first come 5.4?
Considering the popularity of Sandstorm, which is going to play havoc with Spirit's claws hit rate, id daresay that if having to have a weather to flip, it might as well be Moonlight and get much more mileage out of it. But out of the Moonlighters, what would you consider good?
Re: Picking which Celestial first come 5.4?
Spirit Claws is actually very good under Sandstorm: compare
Punch = 20 dmg
Punch under Sandstorm = 15*.9 = 13.5 dmg
ie Punch does 68.5% of its normal dmg under Sandstorm
Spirit Claws = 28*0.8 = 22.4 dmg
Spirit Claws under Sandstorm = 16.1 dmg
ie Spirit Claws does 71.9% of its normal dmg under Sandstorm
I wouldn't be overly concerned with Sandstorm, unless you just can't stand RNG. Numerically Spirit Claws is one of the best attacks you can have under Sandstorm.
As for Moonlighters, none is outstanding on its own--Sprite Darter/Nether Faerie Dragon are probably the best, but they're anti-flyer specialists (still useful since Xu'Fu is a beast) and don't offer much coverage. For pairing with Xu'Fu I'd lean toward Celestial Dragon or Moonkin Hatchling to get elemental attacks so you cover mechs as well; Moonkin isn't bad either due to Moonfire+Humanoid passive, and Entangling Roots is pretty good, but it suffers from a bad breed.

Re: Picking which Celestial first come 5.4?
You forgot Moon-Moon. We just dont know their breed.
Re: Picking which Celestial first come 5.4?
I didn't forget, Moon Moon just isn't very good. Howl isn't very good in PvP; it basically just forces a swap. In PvE if I want a Howler with magic damage, it's tough to beat Chrominius. Also 2 beasts in the same team is troublesome, especially beasts with magic damage -- a single mech will ruin your day.

Ah, some good points there.
