I just bought a Jade Owl and a Spirit of Summer (which is called Captured Flame before you learn it) at the AH. Both items were blue=Rare before I learned them, but now I have learned them, these pets show up as green=Uncommon in my PJ.
What happened here?
1. These pets ought to be green=Uncommon but they showed up wrong before I learned them
2. These pets ought to be blue=Rare but they show up wrong now that I learned them
3. The learnable items are blue=Rare, but the pets are indeed green=Uncommon
4. Another scenario...
Downgraded, or a display/addon issue?

Re: Downgraded, or a display/addon issue?
Hi,
The rarity level of the item the pet comes from and the pet itself can be different. Hyacinth Macaw is Epic, but the pet is Rare for example.
Also there are some pets that are actually random in rarity, like the Red Cricket.
Hope that helps.
Arve,
altdom.

@ Arve: yes, that does help, thank you! I can now assume that it's probably supposed to be this way.
Nonetheless it seems a rather peculiar game design, to make the item that teaches you a pet Rare, while the pet itself is Uncommon. That would only make sense if there are other sources to learn that pet, which I doubt there are,
(BTW I would have bought them anyway;; I consider the rarity of non-wild pets just an additional stat, not a do or don't. I do have to differentiate concerning wild pets though,, because my PJ is full. I even had to release a Poor pet, to make place for the Jade Owl)

Re: Downgraded, or a display/addon issue?
The rarity coding of the companion (non-battle) pets has long annoyed me. The Hyacinth Macaw is epic, in honor of the status it once had as the rarest drop in the game. But in the same patch they made it purple, they also changed it to a zone drop, and it doesn't seem any rarer than some other pets changed to a zone drop, like the Tiny Crimson Whelpling, but that pet is only common. And a lot of crafted pets, that are much easier to get your hands on that the crimson whelp and similar common pets, are rare. It doesn't make sense. If Blizzard can't code them in ways that help naive players judge prices on the AH, then they shouldn't be color coded at all, they should all be the same. And now with the battle pets having a separate meaning for rarity, that has to do with battle stats, it's just even more confusing. I wish they'd overhaul how pets are coded, and how they are listed on the AH.
