Reading this thread has be way more depressing than I suspected, I don't think I ever got deals as sweet as most of the ones mentionned here. So far, my best deals were for timeless island pets and nothing too outlandish either :

That was years ago. The droprate has changed several times since then. I don't know what they sell for now, but back then it was thousands (and when 1k gold was a lot of money).

I also bought my Ethereal Soul Trader for 5k in BC, although it was through trade chat, not the AH.

When pets first became cageable last year, I found myself pretty lucky to have characters on a few different servers where people seemed to have no idea of the value of rare pets. On my home server I picked up 2 or 3 copies each of Hippogryph Hatchling, Nightsaber Cub, and Bananas (all from the same seller) for 5k each. Turned around and sold the extras on an alt's high-pop server, and within the next couple of weeks there I was able to grab a Crawling Claw, Rocket Chicken and Dragon Kite for around 15-18k apiece. At various other times I can recall finding some great steals like a Mechanopeep for 125g and a Black Tabby for 500g.

I had a lot of fun with that bird back in the day, I had one drop on my first ever character little Sylar....it looked special so i never used it or sold it, i eventually reached max level and sold it for 20k i think, saw one on the ah for real cheap bought it and sold it on, then i went and farmed till i got the third x)

Over the years these little babies helped out a lot when I started the game, and I still managed to get a great deal on the one that's with me to this day.

I once found 7 green carps listed by the same guy in the Misc section for 300g apiece. I bought them all, and sold them for between 500g and 3k each.

I think one of the best deals I've had lately was a [pet]Spineclaw Crab[/pet] for 8k. Getting the rare to pop on my realm is near on impossible, expecially since I'm a healer who sucks at dps, so grinding the regular mobs to get the rare to show is less than fun. I've been watching the AH like a hawk since the Timeless Isle opened and the handful of times the crab has been on there it's been for around 30k. So when I saw it for 8k I grabbed it!

I think the only really good deal I've got since pet battling was introduced was on my [pet]Crawling Claw[/pet], which I picked up for 5k.

Back in Cata days I picked up the Dark, Azure and Crimson whelplings for good prices (generally a couple of k each), but nothing truly spectacular.

I remember another, but not from the AH... Guildie of mine picked up the crawling claw while grinding out archeology, and decided it "creeped her out" so she gifted it as she knows I collect pets
