Blizzard recently made a change to how cat battle pets work in World of Warcraft, allowing them to curl up in your character’s lap. Now, that’s pretty cool, but hardly the most important thing in the game. But Reddit user HW_Dan might change your mind about that: he’s posted a heartfelt and moving reason why even the smallest things count.

Perhaps it’s because I’m a cat owner myself, but this story of a cat named Dave touched my heart. None of my cats have passed, but other pets of mine have, and I know how much it hurts (still does, in some cases). Seeing how Dave the cat has managed to keep having a presence in his owner’s life and how much this tiny change to cat pets affected Dan moved me. I’m not ashamed to admit I teared up a bit reading it.

I guess it’s easy to forget that all those other people moving around in Azeroth have their own stories and can intersect with the game in surprising ways. Objectively, the change to cats is development time that many players would never even see, but clearly for at least one player it made a huge impact. Little touches like that have kept me coming back over the years.

As a fellow warrior and cat person, I’m glad you shared your story, Dan. And congratulations for Dave’s mythic progression.
