So, does anyone know whether, once you complete the dungeon, or raid (and can it be done in LFR?), if the trash disappears and for how long? Thinking the easiest way to do the pet battles inside is if the trash mobs disappear like they do in old dungeons/raids after the bosses are killed?

For Eternal Palace - Yes, you can do it in LFR. I believe you can queue into Wing 1 and find all of the pets there. You can stick around even after everyone's left and just catch wild pets. If you run Normal, Heroic or Mythic, you MUST collect them all prior to killing Lady Ashvane. This is due to the fact that you can't get back to the beginning once you've moved past that encounter.

• Blackchasm Crawler - Found on the watery platforms in Halls of the Chosen, before the Lady Ashvane encounter
• Chitterspine Deepstalker - Found in the tunnel that leads to Lady Ashvane’s area, after the Blackwater Behemoth encounter
• Trench Slug - Found as secondaries in battle within the raid

For Operation: Mechagon - Yes, you can full clear the instance, leave, and let it soft-reset. When you zone back in at a later time all the mobs should have despawned in the areas where the wild pets are located. Note that this is for the pets unique to the dungeon and in the underground portion. If you're looking for wild pets that also appear outside the dungeon, you'll need to run around on the surface while inside the instance.

• Copper Hopper - Found after Machinist’s Garden
• H4ND-EE - Found after K.U.-J.O.

For Operation Mechagon, you can ask for someone who has cleared to let them into their save and you can just pet battle. They can leave once you zone in.

I did all the ones in Eternal palace on LFR, just stayed after everyone left Got a rare Blackchasm Crawler and Chitterspine Deepstalker and uncommon Trench Slug

Sadly, I don't know anyone who has cleared mythic dungeons of any kind so I'm not sure what to do with this one but we'll see

I have not seen "Operation Mechagon" listed in the raids/dungeons at all ... how does one get into it? (... lazy bugger I am ... haven't gone reading anywhere!)

You can't queue in, you need to make a group and walk in/get summoned.

I hate "mythic" anything ... have not been able to get a single character past level 1 yet ... I gave up as too many folks/guilds won't even consider bringing one that "low" with them!

I noticed a guy walk in to mechagon and then out and asked him if he was done, he said sure just cleared it, asked him to invite me walked in and then he left. I then collected all the pets (took a couple hours) but I was being quite picky with breeds (not rarity I use stones)
