That part is up to you. If you'll be battling with it then stone it first. If not, you can level it to 25, stone it the level the last 2 levels again and it will count twice for the achievement to level the pets to 25. I stoned mine with the first stone I got and then leveled him to 25 the next day, though admittedly I'll probably never fight with him.

Does it affect the stats, would using the stone first give it more health etc?

Using a stone on it will increase all it's stats, yes.

im sorry what i meant to say, would i get more stats by stoneing it first than leveling it as a rare. or could i level it as a poor to 25 than stone it and still get the same stats as i would leveling it as a rare.

It doesn't work that way charmed. When it was first generated, it was given a breed - it might be a high health or high power for example - and this will dictate the stats at level 25.

Basically, no matter how you get there, a 25 rare of one breed will always have the same stats as any other 25 rare of that breed (for the same pet).

You can find this out by using the calculators on this site. Search for the pet (e.g. Minfernal), go to battle info, change the rarity to rare and slide the level up to 25, then you can scroll through the available breeds to see what stats are available.

You could lvl it to 14 and not lose any levels when you stone it. Stoning now vs later doesn't change the stats you end up with in the end.
