Pet number 500!

I finally camped the bones for Spectral Porcupette and I named him "Five Hundredth". I would rather have "500th" but numbers are not acceptable characters.

500+ pets was a goal I set for myself when Mist of Pandaria came out. It took till 5.2 to achieve that though, too many of the ones I would have needed are not reasonably obtainable, if at all. Such as the China only ones etc.

At this point I still have a few more I can obtain. Long term now I am looking at upgrading to rare on what I have.

Makes me think about Blizz someday possibly adding epic(purple) and Legendary(orange) pet levels. Do I really want that? 500+ pets to upgrade.... YIKES! Going to have to say I hope it doesn't happen.

Happy with rare, Morlis

Grats! I know how hard it is to get that many unique pets when there are so many that are out of reach.

Feels pretty good to get 500, even though there's no achievement for it. Believe mine was Frosty.

I agree, I don't see what good it would actually add to pet battles. When rare is the pinnacle of what we can get, it gives them an easy assumption of how to balance things -- assume people are using rares. Its just more complicated when there's the possibility that people could make it easier with epics/legendaries... do you account for that or just let everything be easier for them. In PvP it would cause problems as well since the matching system doesn't take quality into account so someone with rares would be at an immediate disadvantage.

Along with the logistical aspects -- upgrading a large number of pets from rare to epic, will they still lose 2 levels, how will it be done to differentiate it from rares, etc.

I get why it would be *cool* to see that our pets are epic, but I think it is a bad idea gameplay-wise.

Finally got my 500th pet, and it's the Darkmoon Eye. I called him Quinientos.

300 is nothing to sneeze at, congrats on getting that. :)

Congrats also on others who recently reached the 500+ mark. :)

I think the last 15 or so was the toughest, though oddly a few of them should have been easy to get.

Example is the Mechanical Pandaren Dragon, though I could have bought it, on my server usually around 1200 to 1500 gold. For me it was the principal of the thing, my engineer was 4 levels away from having the ability to make them and I just never found the time to level him.

2nd example is Tranquil Mechanical Yeti, I never got the quest done to get the recipe (you can't get it anymore  ) so I gathered the materials and had someone who had the recipe combine it for me. I paid 50 gold as a tip, but way better than having to buy them for 1000+ gold.

The new fishing pets are also still in the works, have only camped 2 of them so far.

I'm at 499 pets but let my subscription lapse to take a WoW break. Should've tried harder getting to 500 before then I guess :)

congrats on hitting 500 !

I joined this site 4 months ago shortly after starting the pet game and I'm up to 342 pets ..
It takes dedication, persistence and interest and a bit of luck sometimes to get the pets you want,
this site helps get some perspective on pet strategy, rarity and value

I love the battles aspect of the game too and I'm busy leveling a few for pvp

good luck and happy hunting to all fellow collectors
