Question about Current

Hi peoples,
I have a question that i've been googling, and looking on WoW forums but can't find the answer.
In WoW's current state (not PTR) can I collect up pets to be ready for the MoP expansion? OR will only pets obtained during the MoP release be usable for battles?

The small pets you already own will go into the new MoP pet journal, you don't need to re-collect anything. If there are pets you don't have yet that you want, you can keep collecting those pets as normal, they'll be usable in the battles. Just about all pets can battle, but there are some exceptions (there should be a list of exceptions posted on this forum somewhere, I can't find it at the moment). But the list of exceptions isn't too many pets, things like balloons and kites can't battle, some of the humanoids like the argent gruntling, for some reason Mr Wiggles can't, a few other things. There are some threads in the Pet Battles section of this forum that talk about the abilities of certain pets, you might want to check those to see if any pets you can get now will be more helpful in battles than others.
