Looking for universal team for farming trainers
Hey,
So I want to farm the trainers in hopes of getting some battle stones. If possible, I want to try to keep the number of pets I use to a minimum so I want to figure out a team of 3-5 that I can max out and win efficiently with. I haven't had any luck getting the really rare pets like minfernal and scourge whelpling, but I do have a rare fluxfire feline that I have maxed.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Re: Looking for universal team for farming trainers
For the Pandaria Tamers, I usually switch between:
- Flayer Youngling (all purpose pet)
Darkmoon Zeppelin (for beasts)
Sprite Darter Hatchling (for flying)
Rapana Whelk (for elemental)
Wild Crimson Hatchling (for aquatic)

Re: Looking for universal team for farming trainers
Since they nerfed pet leveling by abondaning the daily quest i kinda try to use all trainers for leveling.
So my team usually has one pet to conter the first pet of the trainer, 2nd pet is the Darkmoon zeppelin, because it can kill the last enemy pet with explode, and 3rd any pet i want to level.
The counter pets I use are
FLayer Youngling for Aki
Eternal Strider for Farmer Nishi
Marsh Fiddler for Wastewalker Shu
Emerald Whelpling for Hyuna of the Shrines, Mo'ruk and Courageous Yon
but there are probably a lot of possibilitys
and I just realized I have totally forgotten about Seeker Zusshi and not faught him since 5.1

Re: Looking for universal team for farming trainers
If I were to start over, I would level:
Any snail, for elementals
Any moth, great vs water and protection from big hits
Any Cockroach, vs some of the tamers you will be grateful for apocalypse
Any frog for big water damage (frog kiss will save you many times)
A Harpy Youngling (critter resist and strong vs critters)
A Clockwork Gnome (leveled from start to finish with mine, still use constantly)
A Geode (elementium @1) for suicidal ele damage, replaced by fel flame later.
Peddlefeet - great early humanoid damage, easy to get. My first humanoid stone is his. Seriously.
-+- In outland/northrend
A Clefthoof Runt or Stunted Shardhorn (big beast damage on anything but flying or mech)
Now that I have finished all the tamers and fight them every day, these are the ones I use:
Wild Crimson Hatchling
Silkbead Snail (elemental resist, dive is strong vs elemental)
Stunted Shardhorn (kaboom)
Nordrassil Wisp (aquatic resist, strong vs flying)
Restless Shadeling (dragon resist strong vs human)
Kun-Lai Yeti (frost shock>deep freeze>take down, for those pesky dragons)
For pre-pandaria tamers I also use my frog, clockwork gnome and the fel flame.
Often it's more important what your pet is going to take less damage from than what it will do more damage to.
Some pets are one type, but do another type of damage.
By the time you get to pandaria you're up against legendary pets that do massive damage and you will miss a lot.
If you can find a pet that is strong against (type) AND resistant to (skills of) a bothersome pet = win.
Special consideration - Pets I am leveling to use:
Scourged Whelpling - undead w/dragon damage
Wolpertinger - critter w/flying, beast and dragon damage (used a stone on him)
Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling - mech w/dragon, flying and elemental damage
Fluxfire Feline - mech w/beast damage
Harpy Youngling - human w/flying damage
Untamed Hatchling - dragon/w beast damage AND a heal
Nexus Whelpling - really great set of skills!

Re: Looking for universal team for farming trainers
Flayer Youngling
Sprite Darter
Eternal Strider
All rare. I change the Sprite Darter abilities from magic to wind on some trainers, but this is usually my go to team, I even manage to throw a pet in training in most of the fights (Last night was my Gilnean Raven). Flayer Youngling and Eternal Strider are huge power houses and can rip teams apart.

Re: Looking for universal team for farming trainers
Thanks all, this gives me some things to work with and direct what I want to level.
Re: Looking for universal team for farming trainers
Flayer Youngling and Celestial Dragon are indeed quite the MPVs when it comes to battling Trainers
The following pets are also quite handy for these:
- Magical Crawdad (vs some elementals or critters or any pet that does lots of DoTs or multi-attacks)
- Any rare moth (vs aquatics)
- Fluxfire Feline (vs beasts)
- Some magic pet, either an ooze or a wisp or magic lamp
- Some pet to deal aquatic damage, I like the Pandaren Water Spirit for this because he isn't aquatic and a couple of the pandaren elementals have flying attacks, but a Snail or any kind of Aqua Strider would do
- Fel Flame (vs mechanicals like the Mechanopeep of Major Payne)
I think with just that you can take on any world tamer

Re: Looking for universal team for farming trainers
Peddlefeet is such a nice dude against dragonkins. I use him (it?) against Aki's dragon so yesterday this little fella started the battle against dragon and hit it so hard almost killing it. The rest of the fight went really smoothly. I'm glad I had used humanoid battle stone on Peddlefeet and leveled to max level.
