So, on my way to Family Familiar, I got stuck on Sir Galveston when trying to beat him with all Elementals.

I tried several strategies of my own as well as Xu-Fu's (cant post links but it is Electrified Razortooth, PWS and Terrible turnip) and nothing works for me. Anyone had more success?

Hey Grantus!

It seems my strategy is depending on specific breeds and I didn't capture that when creating it. Right now I can't test it because I'm not 110, yet. But for future reference, I got a suggestion from one of my visitors. It might work for you!

Pet 1: Electrified Razortooth (2 1 2)
Pet 2: Elementium Geode (1 2 2)
Pet 3: Crazy Carrot (1 1 1)

Paralyzing Shock, Jolt, Lightning Shield, Jolt. Enemy first pet has about 100 hp remaining.
Bring elementium geode, feedback to kill.
Enemy brings flying pet. Amplify magic, feedback until it's dead.
Enemy brings last pet. If enough hp - amplify magic, elementium bolt, else simple elementium bolt. Geode dies.
Bring crazy carrot. Jab until victory.

Nope. Doesn't work. 2 failed attempts in a row and all 3 of those pets only have one breed, so that isn't it.

This variation doesn't work either. In all my attempts the elementium geode died well before Coach was dead. My carrot killed Coach with jab. Then Greatest Foe took one hit from the carrot's jab, healed, then nuked the carrot in two turns.

I realize at this point that these pet battles must have changed quite a bit since the beta test. I started working on the Family Familiar achievement right away, and I noticed that a good many of the strategies posted on Xu-Fu's site just don't seem to work in live. I spent a good while trying a bunch of different pets for this battle. (Tiny Snowman, Crazy Carrot, Core Hound Pup) None seemed to work well. I felt like Xu-Fu's use of the Electrified Razortooth against the 1st pet worked well enough, so I left that in and replaced the other two pets with Ruby Droplet and Lil' Ragnaros.

What I ended up with was the following:

Pet 1: Electrified Razortooth (2 1 2)
Pet 2: Ruby Droplet (2 2 2)
Pet 3: Lil' Ragnaros (1 2 1)

Paralyzing Shock, Jolt, Lightning Shield, Jolt. Enemy Pet at about 116 health

Bring in Ruby Droplet, Absorb to kill.

Bubble when Coach comes in (to avoid lift off), Absorb, Absorb, Drain Blood, Absorb, Absorb, Absorb, Drain Blood, Absorb, Bubble, Absorb, Drain Blood, Absorb, Absorb...Coach Dead

Greatest Foe enters battle, Absorb, Drain Blood, Absorb (my Ruby Droplet died here)

Enter Lil' Ragnaros, Burn, Conflag, Smash (Greatest Foe should be dead, if not Smash again)

If anyone is having trouble with Coach, I found a [pet]Jademist Dancer[/pet] pretty effective (I used a P/S, not sure on other breeds).
Geyser on Lift-Off-> Rain Dance -> Jade Claw till dead.
I also found a [pet]Living Sandling[/pet] worked well vs the dragon, lots of HP to outlast it.

My third pet was Lil' Ragnaros... he wasn't much help but did enough to get the job done, replace this with the Electrified Razortooth and I think you have a golden team.

This just became available for me AGAIN. I had done it earlier.

I decided to try with wild Elementals. I tried a couple of things, and found that Sir Galveston changed his rotation. In my first two attempts, Murk switched out to Coach immediately after his Falling Murloc. Didn't happen third time, which foiled my fiendish plan. Third time was a success, though.

I do not suggest this is a reliable strat. Just one success.

And now I realise Molten Corgi isn't wild..... DOH!

Molten Corgi
- started with Puppies to avoid the opening Falling Murloc
- Bark when Puppies done
- Cauterize
- Bark

I swap to P/P Crimson Geode as Murk just stunned himself. This time, he swaps to Coach
- Elementium Bolt as he lifts off
- Two Feedbacks and Elementium Bolt finished Coach

Murk comes back. I swapped to Molten Corgi, which was a mistake (I think). Falling Murloc kills Corgi. Murk stunned.

I bring in H/P Tiny Bog Beast. He brings in Greatest Foe.
- Four Crushes finish off Greatest Foe

Murk comes back
- Poison Lash, Leap, Crush, and my Bog Beast is on 70 HP, but Murk is by a thread as well. That Leap was a mistake, because Murk stunned himself that round. I should have done Poison Lash, Crush, Crush.

My Geode finished it with one more Feedback.

If I ever try that again, I think I'll go with Superbark instead of Cauterize. Would have been a lot easier if the Corgi had finished Murk with Superbark, Bark, Bark.

For the Achievement Ragnaros, Watch and Learn

Your Team:
Droplet of Y'Shaarj (2,2,2) - Swallow You Whole, Expunge, Curse of Doom
Jademist Dancer (2,2,2) - Jade Claw, Rain Dance, Geyser
Tiny Bog Beast (1,2,2) - Crush, Leap, Rampage

Strategy:
Start with your Droplet and Curse of Doom on Sir Murkeston. He switches out to Coach, use Expunge and Swallow You Whole. Droplet will die, swap to your Jademist Dancer to finish Coach with x2 Jade Claw.

After this, there will be switching between Sir Murkeston and Greatest Foe. Cast Geyser on Greatest Foe before swapping to your Tiny Bog Beast and use Crush on Greatest Foe until your Tiny Bog Beast dies.

Once your Tiny Bog Beast dies, use your Jademist Dancer's Rain Dance to heal up. Use Jade Claw against both Greatest Foe and Sir Murkeston to finish the battle.

**My droplet was able to finish Coach before dying so this went even easier than described.

Hi,

Anyone have some more suggestions for this fight? many of these are way too exotic, and us newer Pet Battlers do not have those exotic pets, yet, if ever!

We just about need a list for these weird pets ... that only a handful has! Again, a strategy with a pet that 80% of the pet battle folks do NOT HAVE, is a bad strategy ... please help in that area a bit better, because we're alienating new and beginning battlers, and getting some of these old time pets is difficult these days, and, I, for one, do not have 35K in the bank to use on a Pet!

Posting is great ... but if it is worthless for most of us, what is the point? Go to Facebook and show off your diamond ring?

There have been some great suggestions for defeating Sir Galveston with all Elemental pets so far - more ideas and testing, the better for everyone! :)

If there are strategies that involve pets that you don't have yet, simply move on. While the strat may not apply to you, it may work for someone else that has those pets.

It's also good to keep in mind that achievs like Family Familiar are not intended for the average pet battler at the start. They assume a very large and diverse stable to be completed. They make it so the WQ itself is easy enough to do, but family familiar version can take a wholenother level of collection. This is very similar to how the Celestial Tournament was back in MoP. Originally people were taking 50-75 level 25s in there and still not finishing. Eventually better strats surfaced, players got larger stables, and newer pets were added to make the fights easier.

I'm sure they'll get easier as time continues. Either someone will find a better strat or we'll get new pets that help out. In the mean time, you may have to make the personal trade of non-stable/large chance at loss teams until you can build your stable more diversely.

[1] Emerald Shale Hatchling (212 - Leech Life, Sticky Web, Stoneskin)
P/S Jademist Dancer (222 - Jade Claw, Rain Dance, Geyser)
P/P Sun Sproutling (221 - Club, Healing Wave, Fist of the Forest)

vs Murkleston - Web > Stoneskin > Leech Life > keep alternating Web and Leech Life. finish off with Jade Claws from Dancer
vs Coach - Rain Dance > Jade Claw until its dead
vs Greatest Foe - Geyser (probably die right after casting), Healing Wave, Club, Fist, Club til its dead

Emerald Shale Hatchling will never kill Murkleston but he forces Murkleston to remain out with Sticky Web and while his attacks aren't great he's able to hang around a while since Stoneskin reduces a lot of Hammer damage and Leech Life hits and heals harder against a humanoid. By the time Murkleston finally gets him down both of his big hitters should be on cooldown letting the Dancer finish him off without taking much damage. [1] Tested this with P/P, H/H and S/S breeds. P/P felt like it left the most work for Dancer to do since it never survived second Falling Murloc; think it might be the riskiest of the three. If S/S then alter opening to Web > Leech > Stoneskin > Leech > alternate. With H/H you will want to reapply Stoneskin at before the second phase of Hammers.

Jademist Dancer is always great for killing Flyers with Rain Dance + Jade Claw. P/S is also faster that Greatest Foe so it can drop a Geyser before (usually) getting killed by the Darkflame.

Sun Sproutling was chosen because it had a Humanoid attack in Club and lots of Power. There are probably other pets that would work here as well. Usually the first hit your 3rd pet will take is Dragonkin racial buffed and will hit hard; but since Darkflame was used on the Dancer you can get full use out of your Healing Wave. After that, you just burn it down it down before it can use its heal a second time - the Geyser helps with that.

He took a few more attempts than some of the others but not as many as some other combos.
I think it was elemental vs Robert Craig has taken me the most attempts so far, it's uncanny how often the AI gets the 25% stun to stun.

I agree with Jerebear and Biscuit though, it isn't aimed at everyone to complete NOW! Just work up to it as you can, they won't take it away so there's no time limit.

My team for that was:
HP Crimson Shale Hatchling (122 - Burn, Poison Spit, Stoneskin)
Dark Phoenix Hatchling (112 - Burn, Darkflame, Dark Rebirth)
Living Sandling (212 - Sand Bolt, Stoneskin, Quicksand)

An armor shell like Stoneskin is super powerful versus an attack like Stampede; not only does it negate all the damage, but that means you don't get the double damage debuff. The HP Crimson Shale Hatchling was the pet I had with the most power which met the criteria of 1) has stoneskin and 2) faster than 245 so it won't get stunned. I lol'ed when I saw that the Anubisath Idol has a speed of 244. Coincidence? I think not.

Phoenix Hatchling was selected mostly for Darkflame to nerf their heal.

You'd really like to be faster than Baeloth to reduce Thrash damage and so the stun doesn't cost you two rounds. But that requires a speed of 330 or more. So, next best solution was Living Sandling as both Quicksand and Sand Bolt have a speed debuff that will let you be faster. Stoneskin to further cut into Thrash damage is a bonus.

Living Sandling is kind of rare. Without it I would probably have gone Anubisath Idol and just Deflected the stuns.

I certainly appreciate the comments and the postings, however, there is a slight issue here, that I see, although it might not exactly be seen by others. I am partially blind, and an old foggie ... after all!

Posting here, or anywhere else, about a strategy is fine, but see if you have an alternate if you have an EXOTIC pet that most of us do not have.

IS THE POST FOR YOU, OR FOR US ALL? This could be frustrating for newbies and beginners ... yes, I can look forward to hopefully get that pet ... but some of them are no longer available, I bet!

Sir Galveston, is a tough fight, in general, and I'm getting used to it. It's like Cymre, a bit tough and frustrating, but when you get it done, it feels good.

he was very easy with sunlight and heal pets. yes it takes some patience but who does battles without that :D

I do agree that some people seem to brag rather than be motivated by kindness, but one doesn't need rare pets to behave like that. :P

But there is no need to envy all time. :) Even if one doesn't have a particular pet, after reading the steps they may see the pattern used to defeat the opponent and try to figure out if there's any way to use similar abilities.

A bit of guessing but it was particularly a point of Tiny Terrors in Tanaan -- the mutable support was meant to drive people away from repeating the same steps over and over. Of course, nothing really spectacular here due to limitations, but one needed to switch between [pet]Emerald Proto-Whelp[/pet] and [pet]Anubisath Idol[/pet] and [pet]Magical Crawdad[/pet]. :P

This is very strange ... there are at least two more of the big hits by the first pet and they are not shown/discussed on this strategy. Even with the Nether Fae pet, half the hit points get taken out, so it's weird to see a strategy that does not show this further into the fight. Until the end, their main pet only comes in for his big gun, and swaps out right after it. Which makes the fight a bit harder, unless there is a way that we can stick the big gun, and he can not swap out until dead? Then the fight gets easier! But even with 100 hit points, that means there is going to be one more big hit?

I'll need to check into Paralyzing Shock, Jolt and Lightning Shield ... love the strategy if it sticks and we can deal with Murk right off the start and not feel that we are now so far behind that it is too hard to catch up.

Biscuit -- my apologies if it did not sound right. It was an honest request, and had nothing to do with people having JoJoMoonDog or not. I simply find it difficult to follow a strategy that uses DanceSambaFooFu move, and there is no other pet that has it, is the only thing I am thinking about. The rest is excellent and totally awesome.
