Does anyone know if this xp is also granted to pets (if pet battling) or just the toon xp?

Only the players gets the bonus xp this does not increase battle pet xp.

In general if you are curious if a particular buff affects pet exp, look up the item on wowhead. There is usually a clickable link to the spell/buff there which takes you to the page for the buff itself. In the list of effects look for Aura #420. That is the pet experience increase aura. Only 3 items carry it at the moment. Pet Treat, Lesser Pet Treat, and Darkmoon Top hat. Sign of the Critter also carries this aura.
