Leveling Tips & Locations

Post by Jordicus » January 8th, 2013, 8:46 am

Anyone have any preferred location where they like to level their pets? Any tips you would like to share?

Locations
So far, other than the daily Pandaran Trainers and DMF, I tend to do the Kalimdor & EK Trainers to level lowbie pets, and mostly battle at the Incursion otherwise. Stable Master within 10 steps and fast respawns of grubs makes it convenient, but it does get monotonous after a while....

Tips
As for a tip, battle Farmer Nishi using your Terrible Turnip with Tidal Wave and Inspiring Song, along with another pet that can change weather. You can easily take lvl 10s in and raise them 3-4 levels at a time.

If you already have some Level 25's, I will take a level 1 pet, Kill a couple of critters in the Capital, then Fly to Duskwood, Kill one or two there, then go straight to Kharazan, and beat the trainer. All your little pet needs to do is survive one round, and your other two pets can take out their three.

Then Rinse and Repeat in Winterspring.

Then the rest of the day, Keep fighting Trainers - Huge XP

If you are new to pet battles I'd grab a level 1 Mechanical and Beast and begin capuring and beating the tar out of Azeroth.

What i do is:
take a lv 4 pet and 2 25's.

Do tamers: BB-deadwindpass-SoS-BS-SG-Winterspring. By that time it is 17 or 18.
Then all the tamers in outland. Sometimes its 25 at SMV, otherwise a couple in Northrend.
Nice XP, change on at least 2 bags, guild rep and a few gold.

That is for alliance then. But it can be done also with Kalimdor and Outland/Northrend

I don't use the dailies to level my pets most of the time. I find the travel time between each one is painfully time-consuming.

My preferred method of level grinding is putting on my Safari Hat, heading to Dragonblight in Northrend and battling the Dragonbone Hatchlings with two lowbies and one level 25 (usually the Anubisath Idol since it can take on an entire team by itself). They have a really fast respawn time, are fairly easy-going on lower level pets (for one round each at least), and there is a stable master nearby just in case I run out of bandages.

I'm a very casual pet leveler, as in I don't fly all over the place to do all the pet trainers in Azeroth and Northrend. However, since pets are account wide I park a couple alts at the masters in Winterspring and Deadwind Pass. My daily schedule is:
Log onto alt 1 and take 2 low level pets and a 25 (I use Celestial Dragon) and fight the master trainer in Deadwind Pass. You may get unlucky a couple times and have a pet die, but it's very doable to do even with level 1 pets, besides if you're like me you have a ton of bandages in your bags.
Log on to my other alt and use those same pets against the master trainer in Winterspring. They should both be level 8 by now if you started with level 1 pets.
Switch over to my main in Pandaria and fly around doing the trainers there with 2 25s and any 20ish pets that I have (some are easier than others).
Occasionally I'll use my Argent Crusader tabard to port to the Argent Tournament and do the daily there if I remember.

Parking an alt in Shadowmoon Valley is probably a good idea too, I think I'll start doing that.

If you have any alts that can survive the runs, just park them in front of the various trainers, especially Winterspring and Karazhan. Those two are especially good for getting level 1 pets started since they hit so weakly and/or frequently use non-attack moves. I level pets on the trainers all the time but only because I have alts there -- flying all around for them would be too tedious.

Personally, I'll only do these tamers as my engineer can teleport around or close enough to the first 4 and I have another character sitting in Outland that jumps between the last two.

Kara - soloable with Mojo
Winterspring - soloable with Flayer Youngling
Major Payne - duoable with Fluxfire Feline (currently) and Mojo
Nishi - soloable with my Flayer Youngling (although it takes a while)
Hellfire Peninsula - Soloable with Flayer Youngling or Fel Flame
Shadowmoon Valley- Duoable with Flayer Youngling and Mojo

and then in the Heartland in Vally of Four Winds all the wild battles are easily soloable with my Flayer Youngling. I'll level one or two with my Youngling in that area.

Anybody have a good team to duo the Uldum tamer?

i haven't done a wild pet battle in weeks, except to farm harpy on my warcraftpets guild character.

i have alts at 4 tamers: kara, SMV, uldum dam, & a 58 dk in winterspring (very safe there, i might even run a level 10 druid there if i decide to level that dk, he's on warcraftpets guild's server).

those 4 plus all in pandaria, all using 1-2 25's with safari hat = 2 level 1's up to level 25... although lately i have stopped at 24 to see if they will sell better * (just levelling cageables right now). all are single dailies with pet supply bags.

the travel time isn't too bad since it's just logging in to parked alts, and then flying around pandaria... which includes checking a couple rates, farming, some fishing for raid food mats, etc.

* [edit] i still have not sold a single pet. dropping prices now to below 10k for rare 25s

If you don't have alts or want to do them on one toon, you can cut down on your travel time by having an alchemists make a bunch of Potions of Deepholm

The potion drops you right around the corner from your capital city port, and from there you can easily access the Hyjal (Kalimdor Master) and Uldam (Cataclysm Master) portals

Having Your Hearth set at shrine, which gives you access to Dalaran (Argent Tourney) and Shat (shadowmoon Valley) cobined with the Potion of Deepholm, it really saves time.

This is what I find the best way to do it is. Get 2 teams of pets you want to level to 25 to level 20 and then head out to Pandaria and kill the pets all over the place.

I find that Valley of the Four Winds is the best for battling level 25 pets. Just look for the groups of Muskrats or w/e those things are called. There are usually 3-4 packs of about 5 each making it really easy to find and battle them! :]
The pets out in Valley of the four winds also make some nice additions to your collection as they are already high levels.

I like utilizing a Baradin's Wardens Tabard (A) / Hellscream's Reach Tabard (H) for easy and reusable access to Cata portals.

Since I'm still trying to get battle stones, I still do many of the dailies to level pets. So I do some leveling that way. But since tamers give so much exp, I stop at 24, so the extra exp isn't wasted.. Then I head to Vale of the Eternal Blossom with a bunch of 24s. Mostly water and a few flying. I rotate in Jade Owl, Fluxfire Feline and Nether Faerie Dragon.

I have changed my strategy since this post was made and I've been able to get pets from level 1-25 in about 1hr.

What I do is 1 wild pet battle in Valley of the Four Winds by Farmer Nishi with my team + the level 1 pet I am trying to level. That first battle should take the pet up to level 6 making it much more likely to survive Farmer Nishi's battle (due to the singing song flower's team wide damaging ability). After completing the Farmer Nishi battle it will take your pet up to level 13. Once you complete the battle head straight to Vale of Eternal Blossom and battle the Eternal Strider's until you get to level 25. It should take you about 45mins give or take a few depending on horde/alliance activity in Vale.

Also,

If you are confident enough with your pet battling skills, then you can take your leveling pet (once they are about level 20ish) and battle one of the Pandaren Spirit Tamers. Preferably the Earth spirit as it is the closest to your current location. It should take your pet to about level 23-24 depending on how much exp the pet has. I have taken pets from level 23-25 during the Earthen spirit tamer battle, same with the Fire Spirit tamer.

pet battles can award battle-stones, most notably some that otherwise only drop off rare pets (magical, dragon...). this in turn can save a lot of time. so, i made a little travelling guide to shorten travel times between pet supply tamers just for you :).

Daily Tamer Tour Guide Alliance PoV
Mind that I make extensive use of old teleportation items. I've made a point of keeping them all over the years, because they can prove useful in plenty of situations.

1. Start wherever you want, do them in whatever order you like (This might help -tough probably not- if you can't decide :D).
2. Use Baradin's Wardens Tabard, enter the portal back to Stormwind (you will spawn where the portals are), then head over to Uldum.
3. Use Argent Crusader's Tabard to appear right at Mr. Payne's doorstep. Blast his infamous pets apart!
4. Use Blessed Medallion of Karabor to get to BT, then head to the Shadowmoon Tamer. Keep an eye open for the Fel Flameling on your way.
5. Use Cloak of Coordination, then the portal to the Dark Portal. Head over to Karazhan, look around for arcane eyes and shadelings, defeat tamer.
---
As for 6. Winterspring, I haven't come up with a good solution yet, so either place a twink on top of the tamer or be a druid.

For the MoP tamers, they are a pain, you're right. The only thing you can do is going in one direction, then teleport back to the Shrine, and cover the opposite direction. A gold challenge mode portal (ie: Path of the Jade Serpent also helps, but those are on a 8 hour cool down, alas. There's no way around flying around here.

A few tips for levelling lowbies with your 25s;

If your level 25 dies, you can switch in a level 1 pet, then use your next round to switch it out. This will count as it 'fighting' a round, but you won't have to take an action, or survive a hit.

Many tamers have pets with predictable 'no damage' rounds. i.e. in Winterspring, Tinygos will use Surge of Power, then spend two rounds recharging - use this time to switch in your level 1. Same with Jack in Deadwind Pass, he'll usually open with Thorns or Plant, neither of which does direct damage, so it's often safe to start with a level 1.

BEWARE of AoE abilities that will hit your back row. A classic example is Farmer Nishi's Siren, which will start with Sunlight, completely unavoidable damage, so make sure your lowbie(s) are high enough level to take this hit. Siren is then a very safe pet for them to switch in against, as she just constantly casts Phtosynthesis.

i already use it for uldum and flight time is pretty long compared to the other ones. twink solution seems way more practicable in this case.

Throw the visit to Hyjal in first. That's part of my usual route.

Take the portal to Hyjal, fly down to winterspring, fly back to Hyjal, take the portal outside the inn back to your capital city.

Or craft bunch of Potion of Deepholm if you have herba&alch available or if Hearthblossoms aren't expensive in your AH. A fast way to SW/Org in any case.
