Complete Celestial Tournament Walkthru and Pet list

Post by Elfuego » November 11th, 2013, 11:39 pm

Hey guys, [profile]Elfuego[/profile] here from http://www.wowpetbattle.com I've been reading the forums for a while now, and I've noticed that a lot of information is spread throughout the forums with bits and pieces here and there, so I decided to see if I could come up with a complete one stop guide for players that are both new to the pet battle arena, and seasoned players alike. As always feel free to comment on what works and what could be improved, after all we're here to help EVERYONE move forward!

Celestial Tournament Overiew - Basically the tournament is a rotation of THREE opponents that rotate weekly, and 4 Legendary pets that can be defeated in any order after the three trainers. When you complete the Tournament, you receive a Celestial Coin, and after obtaining 3 of them, you get to choose any one of the four pets: Xu'fu, Yu'la,Zao, and Chi-Chi. After thats complete, you can choose to power level your pet with a Pet Treat, or flush out your collection with rares using a Marked Flawless Battle-Stone. You can do also purchase Battle Pet Bandages, but if your following my 19 Pet Bag Dailies walkthru, you won't need them!

Pets you will need: The following is a check list of all the pets I use in the video walkthru's -Anubisath Idol H/H, Unborn Val'kyr H/H, Terrible Turnip P/S, Son of Animus P/P, Jademist Dancer S/S, Electrified Razortooth B/B, FelFlame H/P, Pterrodax Hatchling P/S, Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling S/S, Spineclaw Crab P/P, Kun-lai Runt P/P, Gilnean Raven B/B, Crow S/S, Nexus Whelpling P/P, Gregarious Grell S/B, Emerald Whelpling H/S, Emerald Protowhelp P/P, Scourged Whelpling H/H, Flayer Youngling S/S, Spawn of Onyxia P/B, Alpine Foxling P/B, Jumping Spider B/B, Crystal Spider B/B, Menagerie Custodian H/H, Arctic Fox Kit P/S, Tranquil Mechanical Yeti H/B, Maggot B/B, Blighthawk P/S, Elfin Rabbit B/B, Darkmoon Tonk H/P, Harbinger of Flame P/P, and Swamp Croaker B/B.

This list is a basic guide line to all the pets you will be using, and some possible backups in-case RNG owns you in the face... As you proceed thru the Tournament, there are some pets you can swap that work really well against the trainer teams also.
If you need to power level a pet fast to use it in the tournament, you can use my 1-25 in FOUR fights guide, or use the Speed-leveling 1-25 guide here for when your daily's run out.

Yep, just spend tens of thousands of gold on rare pets and at least $10 of real money and you too can win the Celestial Tournament!

Your guides are certainly comprehensive, but some of your strategies are out of reach of a lot of pet battlers.

If this forum didn't do a good job of supporting all types of pet collectors and battlers, I could perhaps see a reason to criticize the OP's guide.

But there are multiple posts and threads focused on Celestial tournament and other strategies that incorporate the use of pets that are very accessible - so much so that it is actually difficult to find strategies that highlight the newer, rare, or hard-to-obtain pets. Frankly, it'd be nice to see some of those pets discussed more often.

In fact, most of the pets in this guide are accessible. For the few exceptions, it isn't hard to research substitutes. I just think it's a shame to criticize a well-done guide and all the work that went into producing it. The OP could simply have linked to his blog if he wanted to, but he went to the trouble to create a detailed and nicely-formatted post to share with readers here. It's a very useful guide, and I appreciate it. Good work!

As a pet blogger myself, there's a bit of a no-win situation with newer pets. Especially recently, they're very unique, and very useful. That one new very accessible moth, with Call Lightning, is SO freaking fantastic. But even for someone like me, whose strategies are extremely verbose and runs through the actual mechanics of the fight, highlighting these pets leads to a lot of complaints that they're too difficult to obtain, too expensive, etc. You *have* to pick 3 in order to do a video, and even with Yu'la, where I ran through 7-8 different combinations of humanoids on the blog, I still get, "but Anub Idol's Crush misses!" aughhhh. I'm gonna guess that OP probably runs up against this too. It's just way, way easier for blog purposes to stick with easier to obtain pets.

But, like you said, that's part of the reason I joined up on this forum. I avoided it for a while, because forums in general can tend to be a bit of an echo chamber. But every so often I really want to twirl around like Maria in the Sound of Music and go SKYWISP MOOOOTH Y'ALLLLL! haha.

Liopleurodon - I just have to take a second to dissolve into fangrrl status about your blog. I like it SO much - from the lore that infuses some of your pet descriptions to your 'thinking out loud' strategies (the fetish strategy on Celestial tournament was innovative and has been a huge help to me), it's just all so much fun to read.

You have my promise that I'll never complain if you highlight some of the rare pets - even if it is something I'll likely never obtain (Tyrael and the Vampiric Batling come immediately to mind) I simply enjoy seeing how strats play out. As often as not I can derive something that works for the pets that I do happen to own.

It's killed me to see so little discussion in the community about some of the new pets in 5.4 (with the exception of a couple of OMG NERF KOVOK) threads, but I understand what you are saying about how you have to try to keep complaints to a minimum. It's my hope that the pet community can come to embrace the highlighting of abilities and brainstorming of strategies that use a wide variety of pets - even those that many of us will never own.

And...YES! SO MUCH <3 for SKYWISP MOTH!

I just could NOT get the breed I wanted, and ironically ended up finally capturing it by engaging in battle with the moth right next to the stable master, haha. It was one of the adds.

I'm gonna sidestep & blush, because I really don't want to steal homeboy's thunder. I'm just saying that, as a blogger, the more accessible the pets you choose in your strategies are, the more helpful it generally is (but thank you so much, eeee).

I think a big part of the lack of 5.4 pet discussion was because they released so many unique pets at once. There are a few which are excellent for a few things (skywiiisp moooooth, bonkers, eg), and there are a few which were OP/bugged (I had SO much fun with Jadefire Spirit on PTR), but a dozen or so which are just kinda quiet workhorses. That's even before the SoO pets or, lord, the whole freaking tourney AND the pets from that... it was so much stuff to cover in a very short period of time, so I think a lot of the pet bloggers were kind of in paralyzed shock, haha. And you couldn't just say, 'okay, new moths, 2nd verse same as the first.' Each one has unique moves and roles to fill. With screenshots, playtesting, maybe a video and 500 words or more per post that's a lot of work for one blogger.

Yep, that's the risk you run when you become part of a community and share your resources and strategy. I get a lot of mail every day with requests for alternate teams, and I do try to offer those teams when I can, But players need to also realize there's a REASON a pet is rare, and it costs so much Gold for it. Its because that pet's move list is amazing or destructive. Not to mention, the large amount of farming guides out there on google on HOW to farm Anubisath, or the Raven's or any other multitudes of pets out there. As for me, I welcome both praise and criticism on the strategies and teams I create. I try to stay original and fresh, but the truth is with the pet pool s o small eventually your going to hit repeats, unless they develop more pets with a greater array of abilities, or add an additional ability slot. I've been playing MTG since I was 15, I'm 36 now, that's over 20 years of an ever growing strategy game, I can't wait to see wowpetbattling reach the same type of legacy with constant new pets. I'd LOVE to work at blizz just sitting and coming up with pets and abilities and counterabilities. Its one of the reasons I love pets battling so much, its very similar to mtg in a basic way. I also think its why I took so fast to it.

But as far as the pet strategies are concerned, I appreciate the feedback you guys give, I hope the commentaries are descriptive and concise with easy to understand instructions. Im looking forward to new pets and 6.0 If anyone has any connection with Corey Stockton or the pet department at blizz, Tell him I want a MERLOC in a NINJA outfit with 2 Katana Blades !!!!!! The baddest Murloc of them all!

Another suggestion for Yu'La is Mr Bigglesworth which can pretty much solo the entire fight. Use Claw/Ice Tomb/Barrier/PASS/Claw/Claw and repeat until Yu La is dead.

I've read some forum posts about [pet]Mr. Bigglesworth[/pet], I can see how the concept works, and there is a similar tactic with the [pet]Pandaren Monk[/pet]. You basically keep his shuffle up. I am going to demo them both and post them as videos. When I do I'll link them to both the site, and the Posting here.

Zao

Pandaren Water Spirit: Geyser, Whirlpool and switch to Chrominius
Chrominius: Howl - Bite - Surge of Power

Xu-Fu

Alphine Foxing Kit: Dazzling - Bite - Howl before Alphine Foxing Kit dies.
Jumping Spider: Brittle Webbing - Spiderling Swarm

2 pets against zao and xu-fu are amazing.

Good luck! :)

love the right up. very helpful my pet battle teams reset again and i couldn't remember a few of my teams.

i can usually beat xu-fu with a yeti, s/s crow, s/s turkey, but this strat seems so much more elegant.

looking forward to trying it.

p.s. Molten Hatchling (2,2,1 any breed) can solo Wise Mari. it takes ~30 turns, but it's pretty fun.
