Quintessence of Light - any ideas?

Post by Rincy » November 17th, 2014, 6:46 pm

I'm kinda stuck on this "boss" in my menagerie's Pet Battle Arena.
It is a flying type and deals elemental damage and does heal via cauterize.
I guess snails are good as they take less damage from elemental and have magixc type attacks that are stron against flying.
Sadly I only have scooter as lvl25 and my other snails are lower :(

Any ideas how to kill this firebird?

Here's the team that I used. Tested it a few times, but I'm not 100% sure it's foolproof.
  • [pet]Infected Squirrel[/pet] (P/B 1,2,2 - H/P would work just as well, possibly better)
    [pet]Sprite Darter Hatchling[/pet] (2,2,1)
    [pet]Nether Faerie Dragon[/pet] (S/S 2,2,1 - unsure about other breeds)
    • Round 1: Diseased Bite
      Round 2: Creeping Fungus
      Round 3: Corpse Explosion
      Round 4: refresh Creeping Fungus
Round 5: Squirrel dies so you get a free swap in; Sprite Darter Hatchling - Moonfire
      Round 6: Life Exchange
Round 7+: Arcane Blast with last two pets until Quintessence of Light dies
Alternatively, there's always the "howl bomb" strategy (the one used for the Beasts of Fable NPCs).

your to-go burst team: val'kyr, pandaren water spirit and chromi. start off with shadow slash x2, then pass, then you should be able to unholy ascension (first rez round) and curse of doom. after that proceed as normal (geyser, whirlpool, switch, howl, surge of power if necessary).

you might have to reset the fight if the quintessence hits 3 times twice in a row-

yeah did it with howlbomb now, works fine, feels lame.
I was under the impression that howlbomb would not work with the legendary boss only taking a maximum of 35% dmg per attack. But since geyser, whirlpool and surge of power are all their own attacks there is no problem.

And she hit 3 times often when I fought her. But the first time she did NOT hit my Water Spirit 3x2, I had her with the nuke strategy. Took me 3 tries... the first 2, she ripped me up faster than a WCP moderator locking a hijacked thread. Fine animation, too.

First time seeing this battle today and this worked! Thank you so much. I can't do the "howl bomb" strat because I do not yet have an Unborn Val'kyr.

You can buy a Ghostly Skull in Dalaran Underbelly for 40g which has a similar moveset and Unholy Ascendence which is all you really need anyway.

I've tried the Howl Bomb, and Quintessence's strat too.. even went out and leveled one of the pets. I've probably tried 20 times with each, following each post to the letter. No luck! Getting sad. Very very sad... and headachy.

Watch the Video I made for it zee, it may help.

Quintessence of Light Video Guide : http://youtu.be/wvtmAs9JSp0
Quintessence of Light Strategy: http://www.wowpetbattle.com/quintessence.html

Start with [pet]Unborn Val'kyr[/pet]. Use [ability]Shadow Shock[/ability] twice. Now here's where the strategy starts to align. Pass the third round to keep the Val'kyr alive. From here, use [ability]Unholy Ascension[/ability]. This will amplify damage by 25 % for the rest of the fight. Once your racial has been activated, use her final round for [ability]Doom[/ability].

On the pet switch, flip into [pet]Pandaren Water Spirit[/pet]. Start with [ability]Geyser[/ability]. On the next round use [ability]whirlpool[/ability]. If you do it reversed the bombs wont light line up with Chrominius Howl. Once the Spirit is down, flip to [pet]Chrominius[/pet].

With Chrominius up, All the debuffs we've set should all be around 1 round on their timers. So pop [ability]Howl[/ability]. At this point she should have been nuked down to low health and stunned if not dead. From there finish with a grand [ability]Surge of Power[/ability] or an [ability]Arcane Explosion[/ability] and its GG Quintessence.

I'm working on one with Dread hatchling start also

This requires some fairly specific pets and breeds but it worked twice in a row for me.

SS Crow (Alpha Strike, Call Darkness, Murder)
Dread Hatchling (Peck, Call Darkness, Nocturnal Strike)
Chrominius (Bite, Howl, Surge of Power)

Start with Alpha Strike then Call Darkness then Murder. This is maybe counter-intuitive, but killing your crow works well here because it leaves your Dread Hatchling with two rounds of double damage buff up. Bring in Dread Hatchling, Nocturnal Strike Followed by another Call Darkness almost certainly Dread Hatchling is dead now.

Bring in Chromy, howl, surge of power, game over. Unless you get really unlucky with missed during darkness or crits on Quint's part, you should be good.

I've now done it times, worked 4 of them (once my call darkness missed from my Dread Hatchling).

I realize this requires some specific pets, but it does the trick if you have them.

Darkmoon Zepplin
panda water spirit
chrominius

rnd 1 explode
rnd 2 geyser
rnd 3 whirlpool
rnd 4 switch to chrominius
rnd 5 howl
rnd 6 surge

Only doesnt work if quint gets 3 hits each turn on chrominius and if 1 of those is crit chroimius dies too early

i went with the tried and true unborn val'kyr, pandaren water spirit, chrominius method

start with val'kyr: curse of doom, unholy ascension
switch to water spirit: geyser, whirlpool
switch to chrominius: howl, surge of power

should be dead at this point, won with this a few times to get further along in the 500 wins achieve

I finally defeated this evil thing!

I used an Unborn Valkyr and two Rapana Whelks

Here is what I did and yes, it took a few tries due to insane RNG

Unborn Valkyr first
1) Shadow Shock
2) Shadow Shock
3) Pass <- make sure to do this
4) Unholy Ascension <- make sure to click this as you are about to get killed
5) Curse of Doom <- If all went well you get a free ability when you rez... then you die again :(

If the above didn't work on your valkyr as in you died too soon, forfeit and start again.

Next comes the Rapana Whelk #1
1) Acidic Goo
2) Ooze Touch
3) Dive <- Curse of doom should be going off right about now
4) Ooze Touch
5) Ooze Touch if you aren't dead yet and repeat until dead

Finally and if you got lucky with the magically RNG fairy, this nasty should be around 800 health or so

Last comes the Rapana Whelk #2 and a repeat of #1
1) Acidic Goo
2) Ooze Touch
3) Dive
4) Ooze Touch
5) Ooze Touch and repeat if you haven't won yet

Again, this is going to take a few shots but it works and is a lot less stressful than other pets.

Oh and Fire Quills need to be nerfed like yesterday!

I tried the howl bomb but it's too RNG with a B/B Val'kyr. I think this strat by Quintessence feels a lot better because I have H/P Infected Squirrel. There are just a few changes I made that made it work for me.

    • Round 1: Diseased Bite
      Round 2: Creeping Fungus
      Round 3: Corpse Explosion
      Round 4: refresh Creeping Fungus
Round 5: Squirrel dies so you get a free swap in; Sprite Darter Hatchling - Moonfire
      Round 6: Life Exchange
Round 7+: Arcane Blast with last two pets until Quintessence of Light dies
Alternatively, there's always the "howl bomb" strategy (the one used for the Beasts of Fable NPCs).
H/P Infected Squirrel has enough HP to survive 3 full from Quills (=6 hits, not crits). I'm not sure if it's related to that, but before doing Corpse Explosion you need to pass/do damage one more turn, otherwise you'll just kill yourself with Corpse Explosion and not be able to refresh Creeping Fungus. I did DIseased Bite instead of pass but that left me with 7 hp because of the elemental shield dmg - I'm not sure if that can crit. But if I have more than 270 hp, I've been using Diseased Bite.

With the Sprite Darter Hatchling I couldn't survive if I did Moonfire - Life Exchange. SDH dies after Moonfire. I tried several times and it just didn't work. But if I did Life Exchange > Moonfire, then my Sprite Darter Hatchling could even do some Arcane Blasts and then I could finish with S/S Nether Faerie Dragon.

On the other hand, the Sprite Darter isn't faster than Quintessence of Light at any point, so when I switched from Squirrel to Nether Faerie, I didn't even need to use my Sprite Darter. I tested this just a couple of times so probably there will be situations when it fails.

But here's my version anyway:
  • [pet]Infected Squirrel[/pet] (H/P 1,2,2)
    [pet]Nether Faerie Dragon[/pet] (S/S 2,2,1)
    [pet]Sprite Darter Hatchling[/pet] (2,2,1)
    • Round 1: Creeping Fungus
      Round 2: Diseased Bite
Round 3: Diseased Bite (if >270 hp) or pass
      Round 4: Corpse Explosion
      Round 5: refresh Creeping Fungus
Squirrel dies, switch to Nether Faerie Dragon
      Round 6: Life Exchange
      Round 7: Moonfire
Round 7+: Arcane Blast with last two pets until Quintessence of Light dies

I do the bomb but with an exploding Zep first (I use barrier first.) Then Water Spirit and Chrom.

I already had a Ghostly Skull at the time but he was only level 10 or so. He is almost max now though because I needed him later and he's dang useful. :)

Nearly RNG proof. The only way I could see this failing is if Quintessence hits chrominus 3 times with crits. Out of 10 tries I failed 0 times. So, i assume that chance of her hitting that is fairly low. The lowest chrominus got was 24 health.

unborn valkyr
curse of doom
haunt
switch to panda water spirit
gyser
whirlpool
switch to chrominus
howl
surge

Edit: the advantage of this strategy is it doesn't matter what breed your Valkyr is, it will live long enough to curse and haunt.

Actually several things can go wrong with the valk/water spirit/chrominius strat - all happened to me before my 4 wins yesterday (so the RNG is annoyingly present):

1. Valk dies before casting unholy ascension, and thus gets an undead round - do NOT attack, as anything that causes Quintessence to cast cauterize will push her health outside the range of Chrominius' burst, and she will recover from the stun before he recovers. Since she's faster she will then kill both Chrom and the PWS before they can take off that last sliver of health. Note: Doom alone does not do enough damage to cause her to cast cauterize.

2. Water spirit can be killed by 2 sets of triple hits (they do 270 each x 6 = 1620 and the PWS has only 1546 health)

3. Chrominius can be killed by 2 sets of triple hits with 1 of them being a crit (he has 1644 health)

As long as none of the above things occurs, it's a slam dunk. But it took me 7 fights to beat her 4 times as a result of the above things all occuring to me on the same day. If you only have to do this fight once a day when it's up, then you'll probably rarely have to worry (and with free heals, it's not like it's a strain, but garrisons are eating up 2 hours a day now...)
