I've defeated 2/5 of tamers today, done some quests and terrors in Tanaan, then teleported back to garrison…
Lio shows me a yellow "!", there is no quest in the log.

I couldn't have abandoned it by accident. Or could I?

No server reset involved, it has happened just several minutes ago.

Have you experienced that recently or am I just that unlucky?

Completed for me fine today without any hassle, just did the usual circuit round the six zones. Have you tried fighting a third and seeing if you get credit? Strange things are afoot...

I've done two quests, it's 2/5 again and stays like that, but I haven't use a garrison hearthstone yet.

I'm not in hurry really, I know that's weekly and you can just fight one tamer each day.

The weekly quest can be a bit buggy at times, I've found.

Not the same situation as the one you've experienced, but buggy nevertheless: Sometimes I'll pick it up, complete the traveling Tamer's daily on another toon, log back onto the character I picked it up on and I'll have magically completed the entire weekly all in one day.

I mean, not that I mind. The quest just has some quirks, I guess.

This quest is cross character platform as well. Ive picked it up on my main, then swapped to an alt to find its already completed and the alt can turn it in immediately although main's log shows 0/5.

It seems to me like sometimes kill credit on multiple chars is carried over into the following week.

Thats dissapointing and must be part of yesterdays patch thats broken the launcher and caused thousands of subscribers to lose ability to log on at all.

Im almost certain I did erris as my first of 5 last week and was credited

Are you sure about this? I completed an Erris daily the other day and it counted towards the weekly. Was there a recent patch and official hotfix notes that I missed?

Will check tomorrow… I have 4/5 now (Defeated Gargra on a Hordie).

Yes, I believe that this patch had to mess something up.

Just completed an Erris battle and it gave me credit towards the weekly.

However, it's still quite buggy. The completed count is different for characters. My main character had 2/5 prior to today's quest, but still only has 2/5 completed (I did the Erris battle on an alt).

This doesn't appear to be a new bug. There's a bug report about it from last month: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/20743524314#3

Perhaps the change isn't that the Erris/Kura battles doesn't give credit towards the weekly, but this quest is simply not account-wide anymore. Or it's completely bugged and it's supposed to be account-wide but isn't behaving the way it should.

Yup, something is messed up.

This quest has been bugged since 2015. It is still messed up. Forums report the quest instantly completes after logging out and changing to a new character. Also when changing realms after you have completed it, you can pick it up again. And sometimes it just disappears. I guess it is not a high priority to fix this as it was 2 expansions ago. I am still mad about the shiny pet charms being made useless. That was totally wrong.

Yeah, a long of time has passed but someone on EU forums (I wish I could link it) has hinted towards the process behind this oddiness -- the quest seems to register your wins in the background no matter if you picked it or not.
I had an opportunity to witness it aswell.
I fight Ashlei every day. When I was unsubbed for two weeks my quest was not complete, but as I continued my dailies I'd eventually get 2/5 wins next Wednesday, and 4/5 wins after that.

So while it looks awkward I'd say now it's fine as the reward is earned either way. Kind of like if you forget to pick up quest for Mardivas but already interacted with the device you can go back to the grimoire and it will count for the quest.

The thread diverted from my old OP but thankfully that was just one-time incident.
