Looking for something specific about Moths

Post by Jaladhjin » June 4th, 2017, 9:59 pm

So I see the list here: https://www.warcraftpets.com/wow-pets/flying/moths/

Is there a way I can find which will have the highest stats as a P/P at 25 & rare ?

Or are they all created equal in terms of P/P & 25 & rare ?

Funny, we were just talking about Rufa's site, which used to be a wonderful resource for finding information like this.

No, moths aren't all created equal. I happen to know that the most powerful moth is a P/P Yellow Moth.

From my own spreadsheets, I have, at the top of the moths by power, for Health/Power/Speed

P/P Yellow Moth 1400 341 244
P/S Amber Moth 1400 305 273
H/P Gilded Moth 1546 305 244
P/S Red Moth 1319 305 289

Personally, I favour the H/P Gilded Moth for general demolition duties. Its power is lower than the P/P Yellow, which means it hits about 10% weaker, but that extra health comes in handy on flyers.

Or if you are facing a 260-speed opponent, and there are a lot of those, then the 273 speed of the P/S Amber means that you retain the advantage ever after dropping your racial.

Or if you're in for a marathon, consider the P/S Flamering Moth. Power is only 289, still above average, but it has the option of a heal in the second slot.

Hi,

I always thought, so far, that the best way to learn and see what moths can do is to go farm them in the Timeless Isle. Some of them are nasty, and you kinda learn how to use that particular pet and its abilities, and in the end, it's a really good learning curve on moths. I think there are 4 of them, maybe 5.

All collectible pets have roughly the same stats, with "pure" breeds having slightly more. So there isn't any Moth with "the highest stats", unless you focus on one specific stat (in this case, Power).

As Grainné said above, currently the standard Moth with the highest possible Power is the P/P [pet]Yellow Moth[/pet]. You can acquire them at a vendor in Exodar, they have multiple breeds so it may take a few tries to get the one you want, and then you'll have to upgrade it to Rare with a Battle-Stone.

What do I mean by standard? Most Moths have the same skillset ( 1:[[ability]Slicing Wind[/ability]/[ability]Alpha Strike[/ability]], 2:[[ability]Cocoon Strike[/ability]/[ability]Adrenaline Rush[/ability]], 3: [[ability]Moth Balls[/ability]/[ability]Moth Dust[/ability]] ) and they are commonly run with [ability]Alpha Strike[/ability]+[ability]Cocoon Strike[/ability]+[ability]Moth Dust[/ability].

However, there are moths that offer different abilities, and may need to be studied separately:
[pet]Imperial Moth[/pet]: Can use [ability]Cyclone[/ability], or run [ability]Moth Dust[/ability]/[ability]Moth Balls[/ability] at the same time.
[pet]Royal Moth[/pet]: Loses [ability]Cocoon Strike[/ability] but has [ability]Counterspell[/ability]+[ability]Predatory Strike[/ability].
[pet]Flamering Moth[/pet]: Can use [ability]Burn[/ability], [ability]Healing Flame[/ability], and [ability]Nimbus[/ability].
[pet]Ashwing Moth[/pet]: Has [ability]Wild Winds[/ability] and also [ability]Nimbus[/ability] (on a different slot).
[pet]Skywisp Moth[/pet]/[pet]Cerulean Moth[/pet]/[pet]Crimsonwing Moth[/pet]: Can use [ability]Call Lightning[/ability] and [ability]Counterspell[/ability].

If you didn't write that second sentence I'd think you meant something completely else than you wanted to say. :)

A nice list, of course. I can recall how I felt sorta obliged to write out the story of moths because someone on Xu-Fu's was confused about "Any Moth" wildcard, what is indeed misleading but you can see the limitations. :P

I'd just like to add to the statistics, that the toughest moth (by HP) is the H/H [pet]White Moth[/pet] (1644 HP -- same as [pet]Imperial Moth[/pet] that is "special") and the fastest moth (not like you'd like to use it…) is the S/S Silky Moth (357).
[pet]Fungal Moth[/pet], [pet]Oasis Moth[/pet], [pet]Swamp Moth[/pet] and [pet]Tainted Moth[/pet] have a deviation of base stats, but neither of them can be H/H.

A P/P [pet]Vale Flitter[/pet] (that wasn't mentioned above) has the most power (325) among the Skywisp/post-MoP moths, simply by having a P/P representant unlike the other ones.
