I have been VERY unlucky getting any Battle Stones to drop from wild pets. Higher level wilds have a higher chance to drop stones. I think I also read that lower level pets defeating higher level wilds increases the drop chance as well. If that is incorrect, please ignore the rest of the post [except for posting to correct my assumption! ] .
I would love to know how the difference in level is determined when calculating the increased drop rate from wild pets.
-Is it based on the average level of your pets, like how PvP matchmaking was?
ex. 25/1/1 = Avg lvl 9
-Is it based on participating, still alive pets, like experience is?
ex. 25/25/1 only the level 1 alive at the end of the fight = lvl 1 avg
Heck, I'd take anecdotal evidence. I imagine i'll have to test it at some point, but that'll be a pretty big undertaking to get a big enough sample size. If you have any insight, I'd really appreciate it!
Battle Stones from Wild Pets: Level Difference Calculation
Re: Battle Stones from Wild Pets: Level Difference Calculati
No idea about the level difference being a factor or not, but getting battle stones to drop from wild pet battles feels like running Heroic Auchenai Crypts for the Raven Lord Mount. In other words, pretty close to a waste of time.
I think I've gotten something like 8-10 battle stones so far, and I think all but one were from pet supply bags (or pandaren pet supply bags). I'd say keep doing the dailies as much as you can and you'll get the stones you need... one day.
Plus anyway, unless you get a flawless stone, which is even rarer, you'll get a battle stone for the family of the pets you battled. And there's NO good farming spot for anything else than Beast, Critter, Aquatic or Flying battle stones...
All the pets of other family, even those that used to not be THAT rare, seem to be extra rare now cause people want to farm them for stones...
I'm sticking with the dailies personnally. Unless I want to level a pet and I've done all my dailies for that day...

Re: Battle Stones from Wild Pets: Level Difference Calculati
The drop rate is a function of the wild pets' level, not your level relative to them -- originally from twitter but I'll link this WoW forum post. I haven't seen any actual percentages or a formula to get percentage from level, however. And Wowhead's data for the pet supply bags is contaminated with pre-5.1 data, so I don't know the exact percentage from those either. Anecdotally, it is much more rewarding to do the daily quests though. The Pandaren Spirit Tamer bags do not give stones--only the regular Pet Supply bags.
I'm at the point where I get mildly excited to see a stone in my pet supply bag, and then I get annoyed that it's not a Magic stone. Extra annoyed if it's Beast or Critter.

Oh seriously? that's lame about the pandaren bagsPoofah wrote:The Pandaren Spirit Tamer bags do not give stones--only the regular Pet Supply bags.

Personnally I'm getting annoyed at Elemental stones.. The only 3 stones I got in the last 2 weeks were Elemental >.>
And most elementals come from drops or store or something that makes them come as rare already.. *sigh*
Also, I got 3x the Pandaren Fire Spirit and no other spirit in the last week..
(They do not sell very well..on my server anyway.. ended up giving them away to guildies..)

Bah, really? I need elemental stones but I keep getting flying/humanoid
Re: Battle Stones from Wild Pets: Level Difference Calculati
Doing sethekk hall though its a one per day thing, while the farming can be more extensive, and from what I've seen more rewarding. It took me around 30 attempts to get Anzu to drop, while in one afternoon I got 2 stones, one from a bag and one as a drop.Zaelo wrote:No idea about the level difference being a factor or not, but getting battle stones to drop from wild pet battles feels like running Heroic Auchenai Crypts for the Raven Lord Mount.
