I know this is an old achievement but I'm trying for it now after many years of taking a break from pet battles. My questions are:

Is there a way to know which tamers are up each day? Or is it just checking the map for the world quests?
They just spawn randomly? So it's rng which one pops on a given day?
How many can spawn per day?

The tamers are not on a schedule; they appear at random.

Ususally there is one battle up in each zone, but since some battles don't qualify for Family Familiar, you are not guaranteed to get a Familiar battle in each one.

When a tamer is up, get all the families done on that one if you can. There is no guarantee on when it will be up again.

Durian is the problem child. For some reason none of us can guess, he can't be battled repeatedly on the same alt; once you have beaten him on one alt, you can't go again on the same character - though you can on other alts. This is why you will probably end up waiting for Durian in the end.
