Can anyone explain why I keep getting different amounts of character lvl exp when doing Battles pets in SL, I just did today's pet battles and 3 of them gave me 5150 exp for a level 67 rested ...the 4th one gave me only 1700 exp.....some days I get two different exp lvl from all 4 of the pet battles in SL.....

Was the fourth one against a single Boss pet, and the other three against a regular team of three?

Hi,
Can't say I had noticed that but it makes sense, since with a single pet fight, in general, you can finish it with 2 of your pets. The tough ones would be if the 3 pets have a wild menagerie of spells that are tough to counter but so far I have not seen any of these in the Dragon Isles.

Shadowlands XP does seem to depend on how many pets you're up against, is irrelevant if it's a WQ or not.
Today was consistently seeing 1551 XP from battling a single pet and 4700, about 3 times as much, from a fight with a 3-pet team.
Dragonflight WQ XP calculation is simpler, exactly same XP for any number of your pets against 1 or 3-pet opponent.

Moused was asking about "character lvl exp" rather than pet XP though.
But if Dragonflight gives "exactly same XP for any number of your pets against 1 or 3-pet opponent," that's interesting, though.
Jere's Character Pet XP reference
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8829 hives the formula as
experience = B*T*N*[(your_pet_level + 9) * (opponent_pet_level - your_pet_level + 5)]
where N is the Number of opposing pets. Now, that guide is out of date since Blizzard buffed levelling in 9.1.5, but apart from the buffs, I have still believed the rest holds.
3-pet opponents always gave three times as much pet XP as a similar 1-pet battle. And I thought that might carry over to character XP.
But if you're saying that 1-pet battles in DF give as much pet XP as 3-pet battles, that's a pretty interesting change. I must test it sometime.

OK, so I did two battles. I did both twice, once when I was also getting WQ credit, and a second time when I wasn't, to confirm.
Both were on a Level 65. No Hat, or any other buff.
Both were done with 2 level 25 pets, and a level 23 carry.
3-pet: They're Full of Stars
Level 23 pet got 168 XP
Level 65 alt got 5000 XP
1-pet: Adinakon
Level 23 pet got 672 XP
Level 65 alt got 1650 XP
This makes no sense to me.

it looks like they bumped up the tamer bonus for Adinakon vs other fights. They're full of stars definitely is what I would expect from a repeatable WQ tamer boss:
EXP = B*T*N*(your_level+9)*(opp_level - your_level + 5)
EXP = B*T*N*(32)*(7) = B*T*N*224
For They're full of stars, it's a 3 pet team, so N=2.5 and for Adinakon it is a one pet team so N=1
I"m assuming B=1.0 (no safari hat, no pet battle bonus week, etc.)
They're Full of Stars:
EXP = T*560 = 168 (from your notes) ==> T = 0.3
That's reasonable for any WQ where the fight is repeatable all day any day. I would guess it is a similar value to what you would see for a SL or BFA tamer with a 23 (may not be exact, but still way less than T=1.0)
Adinakon is interesting though:
EXP = T*224 = 672 ===> T = 3.0
That's higher than I would expect for a single boss fight with no tamer (as opposed to little tommy newcomer for example) and also repeatable all day every day.
I don't have the time nowadays to go back and retest everything like I used to, but I wonder if other single pet boss battles give the same EXP or if Adinakon is an anomoly

I tried a few more since then. Vortex, Arcantus, Adinakon, Enok all produse the same. I went back to check Pandaria, and Lucky Yi is different. Seems like they plugged in some factor for DF.
No Hat
3-pet Full of Stars
Level 23 pet got 168
Level 65 got 5000
1-pet Adinakon
Level 23 pet got 672
Level 65 got 1650
3-pet A New Vocation
Level 65 got 5000
3-pet Paws of Thunder
Level 65 got 5000
1-pet Legendary Vortex
Level 23 pet got 672
Level 65 got 1650
2-pet Two and Two Together
Level 23 pet got 134
Level 65 got 5000

Seems to me like the outcome of increasing all "wild" pet battle exp gain in Shadowlands.
Majority of single pets count as wild as well (I believe Mutanis had a list but without Dragonflight, and this should've been derived from an actual data branch anyway), and they all should give the same value: 672 for a level 23 (no buffs). Against a full-blown, wild, level 25 team, you will get exactly 2,5x of that – 1680 (unless you're gonna cap it).
If anything, Lucky Yi is an outlier, and I can clearly see why – its level is 23, not 25, and Wowhead is wrong
Unfortunately, Xu-fu's website values are all over place as well due to both assuming level 25 and not applying the SL Patch. Can't fix it without Ara's assistance
