I just downloaded the new patch and logged in, I was standing next to a Black sheep so decided to give it a go.
It worked, I even caught it on my second go. (Triggered half a dozen achievs when I did)

You can only have a team of one atm, and it appears the trainer isn't teaching anyone new (So you can only do it of you learnt it last time)

When the battle is running it outputs diag messages to the chat channel as well.

what? you can't battle because you don't have the special mouse-over icon when mousing over wild pets.

If you learnt Pet Battle when it was up in the earlier patch you can.

Just learnt from others they moved the required level to learn the skill to 90 atm, but didn't wipe it from toons that already had it.

i had learned it when pet battles were available last week :/

Provided you have at least 1 pet and learnt it you should be right.
If you ask the trainer does he have it listed for Lv90 or does it say already known?
(Mine says already known)

I've seen/talked to a few people who can still battle. (Had a few battles myself). Note: Old Pet Achievs work (will trigger when you learn/catch a new pet) but the new ones do not (Eg No achiev triggered for catching a pet)

Caught a few pets so far. Black Sheep, Mini Harvester, Water Waveling, Scorpling, Warpstalker Hatchling, Snow Cub.

The journal is taunting us though.
The Jade tiger is in, but location found is Feat of Stength, where as the Golden Pig says found in Shat, Org & Dun Morough.
(Both are China only pets)

very strange, just checked some of my toons and it looks like it only works on my pandaren monk. Glad to be able to test it again

I'm able to battle with a different Doobjanka I'd copied over, but I can't capture critters until I've defeated them or gotten them low. At least no competition for the rare ones I couldn't find last time!

should also note that Exp for pets are resetting again once you start a battle.

I noticed 2 fixes so far:

*Wild pets use more then one ability in combat now instead of just spamming the basic attack.
*You actually need to weaken a pet to about 20-25% before the trap launcher is selectable.

They appear to have now turned off capture & XP gain.
So we can still battle, but it doesn't get us anywhere.

I didn't get to learn the battling skill in the first place -_-
My main got caught up in the character copy screw up just after I got my invite.
Bah humbug.

I was getting so many crashes I was only able to learn pet training on one character, and he never got to battle. Pet battles still aren't working for me at all. I hope they become available again soon.

I leveled a few pets off of mobs in Hyjal that didn't attack back. Picked up a few achievements, but since the achievement UI is broken I couldn't track any.
