Battle-stones

I seem to have a problem, wondering if it is common for other people too.
I never get battle-stones. I do the trainer dailies, I do quite a bit of world pet battles and yet I never seem to get any stones. (to put it in perspective I've done 2749 world pet battles and only looted 3 stones from them total]. Is this normal? Are stones less likely to drop if you are leveling a pet (or toon) via pet battles? I've been fighting in mists zones primarily.
Thanks for ur opinions and info!

its all about RNG. sounds like you have super bad luck with it, the bags are supposed to increase your chances for the next bag you open if you don't get a stone but it isn't a guarantee. theoretically if you open enough trainer bags at the same time you could make your chances 100%, however I don't know how many you'd have to open to do so. try collecting all your daily bags for a day and opening one right after the other (I got 4 stones once doing this). But if you have bad luck with RNG then you may have to work harder at it or give up and trade pets for stones.

Doing all the Pandaria dailies, the lengendarys, the trainers, and the elementals, I usually get 1-2 stones in total. However, I've even gotten none doing all those dailies (though I do usually get 2-3 pets when I don't). It's just luck, and it sounds like your luck is worse than mine.

Pre-fix in 5.3 I had done about 2800 world pet battles and reaped maybe 6 or 7 stones total (mainly aquatic from the vale)
After the 'fix' I got quite lucky specifically from beast of fable rewards -seems the stone rate is best there - 50% of the time I'd get a stone or a panda ... it tapered off soon after the fix
Pet pvp - the 1st 100 wins I got very lucky with 2 flawless (any family) stones ,
the next 300 wins=zippo just one elemental stone
So = 3700 world pet wins and about 10-15 total stones for me but overall far better post 'fix'

When you're doing the trainer dailies, are you using the same character for all the trainers? I'm pretty sure the increasing chance to get a stone from the bags is character-specific. I know there are some people that do the dailies via various parked toons, which would spread the streak-protection out more than building it all up on one character. I do all of the Pandaria tamers pretty regularly on either of two of my characters and normally get two or three each day. It also seems to me that the increased odds of getting a stone doesn't fall off all at once with your first stone, I'll regularly have a dry patch that lasts awhile followed by two or three stones from consecutive bags.
If you really are just incredibly unlucky, hang in there. I'm sure it'll balance out sooner or later.

You're just unlucky or hitting an unlucky streak. I only do trainers each day and get an average 2-3 stones from them. I boost lower level pets on every single fight, I have several alts (most sub-90) parked to do battles, and it doesn't seem to impact the stones at all. I'm probably sitting on close to 100 stones right now, so now I'm working on upgrading friends' pets.

I was really hoping that it was because I was using low lvl pets getting them exp
guess I'm just unlucky. Thanks for the info everyone! I'll try opening them all at once and maybe I'll get some that way. It is very frustrating especially when I'm doing them side by side with someone who always seems to get them out of every bad lol.
Thanks again!

For wild pet battles, I thought you only got a chance at a stone if the lowest lvl pet in the group was within 5 lvls of the team you were battling? When I level one from 1-25 on the 24-25's in Dread Wastes, I've only received a random stone once my lvling pet was 19-20.
I don't think they changed it
Anyone else confirm?

I´ve gotten stones while doing 2-25s and a lvl 1 in Jade forest. This week I have been taking all of my lvl 1´s up to lvl 6 I´ve recieved at least 2 stones in the course of probably 2oo fights
I think the rule you are thinking of is you can´t use a lvl 25 pet to massacre level 1 pets in Ogrimmar and expect to get stones.
As to the OP. I do EK(1), Kal(1), Outlands(1), Northrend(1), 4 spirits, 7 Panda tamers and 2 books of fable.. so I guess that is 17 bags total.. I usually get 2-3 stones per day. The books of fable have a much higher chance than the others. But I remember distinctly going 2 days without a stone (or a pet).. I thought something was broke.

I was wondering about this myself as my mage does most of the old world dailies and then I have leveling characters parked at the trainers in Dread Wastes, Valley, and Jade Forest. Then my 90s fly around and do the other MoP dailies including the spirit tamers. I wondered if I was decreasing my chance for a stone by splitting up the characters who are battling. Theoretically, I should be doing all my dailies on one character to increase my chance for a stone to drop?
I have only gotten a BoE flawless stone once ever, and lately I have been getting more polished stones than I want since all of my collection is already uncommon or rare. I think I have 10 of those split up on various characters.

I had assumed that the same toon needed to be used to improve the chances of a stone. My question regards logging out on that toon..does this reset the calculation for improving chances, or does it carry over into the next log-in? In other words, do I need to do all my trainers and battles in one long run, or can I take a break for real life?

Guy in Ulduum has a bag too... I think 19ish bags total per day!?! (excluding weekly PvP bag)
Also, I wonder if there will be some sort or currency exchange for polished stones in the patch? That would be nice!

I can´t imagine it would reset at log out. It is based around the same system as LFR loot drops, and that carries over week to week.
It is probably character specific.... but there is probably a math wiz who could help me.... but I don´t think there is that much of a difference if you park characters or do it all on one alt. Remember, your alts are each themselves building up ´bonus points´ when they don´t get a stone. So is it better to have your main get 5 10% bonuses to their roll (50%) or is it better to have 5 alts each get 10% bonus to their rolls? I think over the course of a week, the math would be very close, but using one character would require much more time for flying.
Edit - yeah, i forgot to list the guy in Uldum. He is a good one too because you can powerlevel a low level critter.

I don't think lvl affects stones because I've gotten em with 2-25s and lvl-1 in mid lvl areas around kalimdor and eastern kingdoms. I think lvl only affects xp and even then it's only if the pet your lvling is more then 5 lvls higher then the pet your battling

Monday was the first day I hadn't done all my bag awarding tamer dailies all in one sitting in a very long while. I did 5 of them and then logged onto an alt to level for most of the day and then came back much later to do the rest. First day in forever that I got no stones from bags. Not saying this is necessarily a correlation, as I was kinda due for a dry spell. (Consequently my wild pet battles in the next 2 hours netted me 5 stones, so no complaining from me at all!)
I hadn't heard about this improved chances to get a stone if you don't get one. When did this get implemented?

I'm actually really interested in this myself - I did a LOT of pet battling before the stones etc. were implemented.
Rough numbers for me suggest:
When doing ALL of the bag dailies (4 Pandaren spirits, all pandaren trainers, the 5 old world tamers and the 3 legendary pet dailies) I will average around 3 stones a day - I've had days with none, and I've had days with 6 stones (!) - typically I receive 2 or 3 though. This also takes around 2 hours of my time
I have NEVER had a random pet stone from just the tamer battle.
Tempted to start keeping harder numbers on those - to see figures on which bags are dropping what and how often.
Precise(r) numbers:
I've been levelling toons with pet battles. Each battle seems to give around the same XP as a quest (I'm only fighting level 22+ pets). I didn't keep firm numbers for the first few toons, but with the latest toon (who I've levelled from 82 or so to 85 while keeping track of numbers) I've found the following:
It's around 100 (probably less) battles per toon level
Lots of things can change this: level of your pets, level of the pet you're challenging, bonus gear you're wearing. This is an estimate (and now that I think about it, most of my toons were wearing the BoA gear).
I estimate that wild pet battles give one stone per 100 battles or so
I wish I'd kept better numbers for the earlier toons, but I can give the following numbers so far:
130 battles to receive one stone (beast)
33 battles to receive the next stone (flying)
120 battles to receive the next stone (flawless battle stone, off a beast mob)
Currently at 18 battles without another stone. Wondering if people would be interested in seeing these numbers posted somewhere?
I believe that each battle has a chance to award either a stone of the challenged pet's family, or a flawless stone.
Please note!
I know these figures look small - but I've levelled 4 toons from 85-90 with pet battles pretty much alone. I levelled one toon with receiving only one stone the whole way, and I've also had 2 wild stones in 3 battles. I still have 3 more toons to level after this guy - I'll keep tracking my numbers.

I would love to see you keep tracking stones from wild battles! I've been tracking my stones from tamer bags - what type, who gave it to me- and I average 2 stones a day from 16 bags. I usually forget to do the fable dailies as I've traded for all the pandas already. I spend to rest of my day on wild battles a lot, and outside of that one morning where I got 3 beast and 2 BoE in 2 hours, They have been tremendously scarce, I go 4+ hours of leveling pets and never seeing one most days.

Battle stones are hard enough to come by, but when you get one and it's not the kind you need - ugh!
Does anyone know if the chance to get a battle stone is increased using the bags
and random battles? Or are they separated so that each bag has a better chance at getting a stone, but doesn't affect the random battles (and vice versa)?

It is actually the other way around... your highest level pet cannot be more than 5 levels higher than the pets you are fighting... and that is only for xp/charms.
I have gotten stones from battling wild pets that were in their teens with a team that consisted of a low level pet and 2 level 25s.
That said, I have not gotten a stone from a wild battle in months. I have gotten maybe half a dozen or so from pvp battles (mostly the garbage stones that only upgrade to uncommon).
I have alts parked at most of the tamers and never do more than 3 or 4 with the same character and usually get at least one stone each day.
