How do you switch your characters?

I've been petbattling for few months. There's something I've been noticing between one petbattle and another. This is that some of my opponents switch characters from one battle to the next one. How can you do that?

I mean when I just finished an encounter against three moths then immediately queued and one minute latter I'm battling the same three moths, but this time the guy isn’t a sexy female blood elf, but a low level alliance fat panda. Really under a minute? with no loading screen?

Does anybody know the reason behind this?
