Percentage based damage

Haven’t played around much with these kind of attacks before. They always felt kind of weak. Way back when I started pet battling I tried stuff like Glowing Toxin, 6% damage(84 damage a turn on a 1400 health pet), or tried Trample with it’s 10% damage component in a Sunlight environment. Neither felt very useful at the time. And I never really felt Corpse Explosion was a valid option.
Today I was playing around with Infected Squirrel and just because I wanted to try something different I decided to use Corpse Explosion. I was not blown away as such, though the Squirrel was, but still found it an interesting experience. It was quite nice move to do on your Undead turn, or the turn just before. 15% initial damage was about 244 damage, and the dot component came to 70(on a 1400 health pet) damage a turn(lasting 4 rounds).
What I did notice was that since it’s a percentage based damage it was not affected by opponents shields, in this case Stone Skin. Also even though it was “undead” damage it didn’t count as strong vs the Idol, and also it didn’t count as weak vs a Strider. So same damage no matter what. Not even when I used Stampede did it do more damage. I don’t know if it could crit, but I guess not.
Corpse Explosion worked out better than I expected, so I decided to give Glowing Toxin another shot. 6% for 5 turns(the turn you cast plus last for 4) equals about 420 damage, not that bad if you look at the total. I guess the biggest issue with Glowing Toxin is Firefly ability set. But one positive with percentage based damage is that you can focus on health and speed instead, since power won’t help you. I was thinking of throwing Glowing Toxin and then switching to another pet. This worked reasonably well actually. Though it is annoying when facing humanoids since their self-heal kind of evens out the toxin, but on the other hand you can look at it that it’s the other way around.
Well I just got the feeling that these kind of attacks were not as bad as I initially thought, especially Glowing Toxin and Corpse Explosion. I have not yet revisited Trample. Though I don’t think Toxic Skin will ever be “worth” it. Costs a turn to cast, and with a speed of 276 you are not that likely to go first. But perhaps if you are up against a multi attack pet it will start to ramp up.
Anyone has any experience with these attacks?
