Capturing a rare with whatever stats it has or capture the pet no matter its rareity and use a stone to get it to rare?

Rarity can be upgraded with a stone, but Breed never change..

So, unless you don't care for Breed, it's most important you find the right breed.. But a blue pet of the right Breed is the top..

Hope it makes sense..

^ This!

As exciting as it is to get a rare, if it is not the right breed, you still need to keep looking.

I think it really depends on the pet. Sure it's nice to have the "best" breed but does it really matter if you aren't actually going to use it of if it's your 10th S/S rabbit? I only worry about the breed if I'm likely to use it and it's likely to make a difference. Another factor can be how many breeds the pet comes in. If the pet is only available in 2 or 3 breeds getting the right breed as a rare shouldn't be too hard. If it's like the flayer youngling and comes in every breed available finding a rare S/S breed in the wild is like winning the lottery.

Like other folks here have said, it really depends on the pet and/or your own personal collecting style. Though, with the relative ease of obtaining Rare Upgrade Stones now, I have to admit that more often than not, if it's not a pet that I know I definitely need a good breed of, either for a particular battle or for PVP then I just grab whatever I'm presented with first and use a stone on it later.

And then pets take a long time to spawn and when they do its in limited quantity - in those situations its definitely a situation of grab the first one you can get and make it rare later.

Definitely! There are some pets that you just take anything you can get and stone it if you have to.
