The One Million Gold Pet
Apparently in the latest build the Celestial Calf is to cost (queue Dr. Evil) One Million Gold from The Mad Merchant.
Would you pay it?
Would you save up for it?
I like collecting, but I don't see myself buying that one!

Re: The One Million Gold Pet
Seeing the discussions, that isn't popular but…
I don't agree with the opinion that it's a decent solution.
The current economy reflects not only prestige but the supply aswell: TCG items and unobtainables are more expensive than the everyday items, SoO pets are more expensive than the older raid pets etc.
The Mad Merchant ignores that fact, setting the prices above the current cap.
That renders all present market values laughable in no time, because nothing but income separates us from him.
So wait. An Inflation = increasing prices. An answer to that = even higher prices? Fight fire with fire and demons with Illidari…
WTB all TCG items, now. I have only 120k, but that shouldn't be a problem for you, already swimming in the gold, eh?
Not to mention the people selling tokens in handfuls (don't get it wrong, big thanks to them) that make the whole thing a bit shady. Though brilliant aswell.
Who has put that tinfoil hat on me last week?

Re: The One Million Gold Pet
I'd probably regard it the same way I viewed the transmog yak. Ignore it for an entire expansion to make the point that I really do not approve of such a super high price for not that much value. Then next expansion some day when I'm really bored and out of realistic (0.01% drops are NOT realistic) goals to work on, go and buy it just because going 3 months in a game without any reward is really not fun and kind of awful. Then spend the next month on obsessive buyer's remorse of oh my god that was too much gold how could I do that what's wrong with me I may need that and that's a lot of gametime. I know me, that's how these things go.
Re: The One Million Gold Pet
I remember raider 'back in the day' complaining about 40g repairs per evening of progression. Saving up for the first mount was also not easy. Nowadays, you get more than that for clicking a garisson mission.
The problem here is that we're comparing 1 million gold with the current values. If a quest reward in Legion gives, for example, 100000g, then it's not a big deal. Blizz increased the gold cap hugely and I can't imagine they did it to keep a handful of AH PvPers happy.
Just my $0.02 ...

Re: The One Million Gold Pet
I will most likely buy it, but, 1M for a pet with an awfull skin (in my opinion), I'm not so happy about it. We still have hope, Watcher said feedback for the other items (bag / toy / pet) are heard, and maybe they'll adjust a few "details" (like the skin or price, I hope), so we'll see.

You've reminded me that the current hippo model tends to vanish in the pet journal akin to the Cheshire cat.
Now that's a gold sink!

I saw on the developer twitter feed that the gold cap is being increased to 9,999,999 gold.

Just a gold sink. I'll exclude it, much like old CE pets.

At least they should have waited with several patches after increasing the cap to see how the economy changes, if so.

Re: The One Million Gold Pet
In my opinion the Mad Merchant serves two purposes:
1.) It caters to Blizzard's core audience of the achiever-archetype, especially those who not just want to beat the game, but want to beat it first. Almost everyone who wants to be a "special snowflake" will buy the items regardless of price. I wouldn't be surprised to see a bunch of in-game achievements attached to them to increase the pressure on those players to get the items.
2.) It ensures that huge amounts of gold are in circulation and a steady stream of WoW tokens are on the AH. It might not even be intended as pure cash grab for Blizzard, but more of a tool to stabilize the WoW token market.
As long as it doesn't turn pet battling into straight Pay2Win I don't really care much about it. While I probably won't buy it on launch day, I might get it after collecting the other legion pets.

Now a bit… dangerous question. How high have the dupes affected the market?
That would explain some things that are not very clear to me before.

Re: The One Million Gold Pet
While I have the gold, I don't like the skin of the pet at all so I'm not going to bother buying it because I will never summon it, or probably not even look it up in the pet journal unless it's super amazing for pet battles.
Re: The One Million Gold Pet
I don't know. I can afford it easily, but I'm not hyped. Might buy it some day.

Re: The One Million Gold Pet
Gold grief. I still haven't saved up enough money for that damn Yak.
Re: The One Million Gold Pet
Well, I bought at the begining of MoP (first few months), the spectral tiger cub and the soul trader, they were both between 200-300k in price depending of the server / seller. Now, with an inflation of x6-7 on all the TCG, I let you imagine why they are at +-100k now. At the end of mop, you could buy to some seller 10-15 spectral cub or soul trader for 8k /u...Paladance wrote:Now a bit… dangerous question. How high have the dupes affected the market?

Re: The One Million Gold Pet
my opinion: complete bullsht that a RECOLORED NONE LIMIT PET
is asking for so way to much money....
Just shows that Blizzard is as far from the playerbase as it gets.

Re: The One Million Gold Pet
there is not a pet in this game worth that much. So no I will not pay for it. Looking at its abilities it isn't that unique either. For a re-skin no thank you. Not worth it
Re: The One Million Gold Pet
I guess I'd be a sucker then. It could be a tin can with no moveset and I'd still buy it.
Personally I like having gold sinks, because it gives me a reason to keep making and saving up gold. I've kinda lost my motivation lately since currently there's nothing new to "waste" gold on, except BMAH (IF the items you want ever show up).
