Non-Howlbomb strategies for Tanaan pets?

Post by Seyla » June 16th, 2016, 2:02 am

Are there any viable strategies other than Howlbomb that work on the tanaan pets? I've tried everything I can think of and come up with nothing.

I haven't done them for a long time, but when I did I used a P/B breed [pet]Zandalari Anklerender[/pet] for them all, with a couple of tanky all-rounders like [pet]Anubisath Idol[/pet], a P/P breed [pet]Emerald Proto-Whelp[/pet], P/P [pet]Emperor Crab[/pet] and [pet]Pterrordax Hatchling[/pet] (good against the Crabs) as backup, or a [pet]Chrominius[/pet] for Howl, Bite, Bite and/or Surge.

A P/P [pet]Zandalari Anklerender[/pet] will also work, but tends to die just a bit too soon on some of them.

The trick with an Anklerender is to use [ability]Primal Cry[/ability] first if the slowing debuff will make you faster than the opposing lead pet. That effectively gets you a free round. Otherwise, [ability]Black Claw[/ability] + [ability]Hunting Party[/ability] by themselves will likely do the job.

Mirecroak is pure RNG. If you get Frogged, forfeit and start again. Most of the rest were fine, though.

I've been planning to create a lil' guide about general dealing with pets without Howl, but I still hope that nerf would be reconsidered and cancelled.

If I recall correctly, there are five opponents slower than Molten Corgi and S/S Fiendish Imp. You can force opponent to swap until it remains alone (beware of finishing adds before cooldown wears off).

After that, Unborn Val'kyr with Curse and Haunt + Infected Squirrel with Stampede (picking up the undead was originally intended against Thundertail's Devour, but in general it's about the damned round prevalence). However, I'm not sure how it works with the incoming resurrection sickness.

Skrillix hurts.

One needs the s/s breed of the anklerender as to not to get stun locked on one like the eye ball guy in tanaan

I do remember having problems with this guy, so I went back to check.

Of course, RNG applies to this and all other battles, and I recall I may also have used Ikky on this guy, but I'm pretty sure the P/B is viable.

I don't have a single go-to team (I find using the same team repeatedly on all of the fights kind of boring), but I've had success with this list: [url]http://wowpetaddiction.blogspot.com/2015/06/my-teams-for-tanaan-boss-pets.html[/url]

Sorry for lack of detailed information on actual moves each round. I haven't done the Tanaan fights in a while; I'd have to go back and do the fights again to remember the specific strat.

There are probably much better strats floating out there (that don't involve Howl-Bomb).

And P/P [pet]Emerald Proto-Whelp[/pet] is my MVP for all the Tanaan encounters *hugs whelp*

It is viable but s/s takes a lot of the rng out of the picture. Rng is a bitch at times in pet battles so I try to limit its evilness as much as possible.

The thing is that [ability]Primal Cry[/ability] reduces the enemy team's speed, so Gazer is no longer first and can't perform a stun (each Tanaan foe uses the fel boost first). No need to overthink. ^^

Using Call Lightning (for example from Wild golden hatchling), before the enklerender does its Black Claw + Hunting Party will greatly increase the damage he does.
Helped me a lot in the Tanaan battles.

Not pure RNG, use a pet which is immune to the frogging!
Try the Black Lamb.

Darkmoon Hatchling is probably better than Black Lamb if you're going that direction on Mirecroak, but I just looked up my Rematch, and I have Ikky as my current Mirecroak team point-bird.

Hi,

In general, I have had no issues with the Tanaan Jungle buggers, with one exception. In the cave, that booger had a P/P Bloodbeak (and BLUE) as the second pet, and that made the fight very difficult. the Anklerender had no issues with the boss, but the Bloodbeak was taking advantage of the fact that all the other two pets had nearly one third less health, and could not take him down. I finally got through, and I still am not sure why, but I think I had to make sure that I got the "block" properly out of the way with the Anklerender, or that fight goes south quickly.

Edit:

For example:

Ikky starts with Black Claw > switch to Bush Chicken > Flock

safe and fast :D
Why switch to cast [Flock] when Ikky has it already?

I've been using the Black Lamb on Mirecroak and Dark Gazer because it's immune to the interrupt/frogging. It was just a replacement option for [Howl].
[Gyser] > [Whirlpool] > swap > [Howl]
Becomes:
[Gyser] > swap > [Chew] > [Stampede]

It isn't as strong as the old [Howl], as you don't get the option to follow up with a big hit, but it works well enough that I didn't keep looking.

In spite of its name, you do realize Bush Chicken is a critter, right?
I think that is the point...Critters are immune to stun, root and sleep effects

ahh!
I hadn't looked at that. :-D

Silly name!

So the same idea but a different way of winning, which is good. It would suck if there was only one way to win, that would be even worse if the required pet was really rare, expensive, or even worse, no longer available.
