Just got back to WoW after about 2 years off,
Any tips for leveling pets quickly to catch up? And which should i prioritize?
I collected pets from before pet battles started, never really did battles once they came out, but would now like to give it a go.
Collection below,

Hi Splitfinity,
to not write too much at once I'm going to just write a list of pets, but feel free to ask more…
expect some walls of text from other people already!

It'd be also nice if you did read info about rarity and breeds, Warcraft Pets has it under the [Guides] section.

Re: Tips for a return player?
I'd recommend buying Boon of the Zookeeper from Draemus at the Magical Menagerie in Dalaran. This shoulder enchant gives occasional pile of pet supplies, including pet charms, when you loot kills.
Lio the Lioness at same shop is vendor that takes these charms for a variety of useful pet stuff. Marked Flawless Battle-Stone will upgrade any pet to Rare quality. Pet Treats increase pet XP from battles for an hour at a time.
The pet supply drop often includes a Lesser Pet Treat and occasionally will have a family-specific Battle-Stone too.

If you want a list of the most useful pets for PvE, I refer you to this post

You won't go wrong spending time levelling or stoning any of that list that is of an appropriate breed with a count of 2 or more.
However, my actual advice about what to do is to follow the list of achievements that Blizzard have laid out. It is a really good pathway into battling. If you treat levelling as a chore, it can become very disheartening. Just progress through the content, and level as you need to to get to the next stage.
I see you have Taming Eastern Kingdoms. Go ahead and do Taming Outland, then Northrend, Cata, Pandaria. Pandaria in particular unlocks dailies that allow you to level pets very quickly. I used to level 3 per day, and 4 is possible. As you work your way through, you will find that you need specific pets, and you will level them as needed.
Tamer battles give huge XP. Use two level 25s and a carry pet, and the carry pet will go 1 to 25 in 4 battles in Pandaria or Draenor - less if you use Pet Treats and a Safari Hat.
After Taming Pandaria, you can carry on to the Pandaren Spirit Tamers and then the pinnacle of pet battling - the Celestial Tournament.
Even before you finish that, you can level pets at the tamers in Draenor.
For wild battling to level pets, I recommend the critters at Halfhill, between Nishi and Lucky Yi, and the aquatics around Aki at Mistfall.

You will find suggestions for battling teams on Wowhead. The forums here are also a great resource. Once you get to Pandaria and above, you can use wow-petguide.com as well.
