as a general rule of thumb, you'll usually prefer using stones on non wild pets because they can't be upgraded by any other means. however, if you don't plan on levelling any of them soon, upping a rare pet with the ideal breed (!) isn't a stupid thing to do either, if you're going to level it anyways. i'm saying this because i've been farming 4 hours for a rare breed 5 rapana whelk, which is a common spawn. who knows how hard rare top breed rare spawn wild pets are to come by. i most certainely don't have the time for such follys. :)

Ril definitely gives good advice. When I had to choose the first time I got one I did the Gilnean Crow. That is a very good pet to have as a rare. I have another now, that I am trying to decide what I want to do with, as well. Ril, thanks for the input on this post, it is making me think of how I should look for the right breed.

hrm. some pet battle related stuff like bandages are going to be BoA in 5.2. i'm not sure if this is the case for stones too, but maybe you just keep it until you've made up your mind? the worst that can happen is one less bag slot for a few weeks.

There is really no need for the stones not to be soulbound though, since it's no bother to summon the pet you want to upgrade on the toon who has the stone.

I agree, use it on a non-wild pet. I find rare gilded moths fairly often.

First two flying pets I used stones on and very happy I did. Nasty in battle and just kind of cool to have out.

I have to agree with Ril on this one. I would rather use it on a non wild pet that can't be upgraded any other way. I can continue to farm for wild pets.
