Scourged Whelpling
While most people use Call Darkness in most situations, I happen to use Death and Decay and Plagued Blood as a strong build versus high-damaging Magic and unstoppable Humanoid pets. Whelp's reduced damage from Magic attacks, plus the bonus heal from Plagued Blood means it can solo quite a lot of PVE matches against trainer pets.

My Favorite pet is my Emerald Proto-Whelp named Drowzy.
Emerald Proto-Whelp is the perfect "turtle" pet. Simply give him all of the his second lvl abilities and watch him snooze his way to victory! He can easily solo the Whispering Pandaren Spirit this way which great for leveling other pets! Just keep him safe from those pesky human types!

Darkmoon Zeppelin
Surviving though the Thundering Pandaren Spirit's Earth Spirit and Sludgy only to have your team demolished by Darnak the Tunneler's Burrow and Stone Rush? Bring along the Darkmoon Zeppelin. One use of Decoy absorbs two of Darnak's attacks, and should buy you enough time to Missile Darnak into oblivion.

This pet is absolutely AMAZING against flying pets. Mana Surge tends to kill most flyers without requiring any other additional moves.

Celestial Dragon
I like to level in areas with lots of Critters or Flyers and Celestial Dragon can make quick work of those enemies.
Setup the fight with Roar for the damage bonus and then follow with Moonfire for both the Arcane damage boost and healing bonus to Ancient Blessing.
If a Flyer happens to be the second or third opponent, the Dragonkin Racial combined with your next Moonfire will be devastating.

Panda Cub
(while i understand how rare this pet it, there are multiple other bear pets that it works for Dun Murogh Cub, Hyjal Bear Cub, however some are helped by a battlestone)
Use these bears to level up. Most zones have critters so beasts tend to do well. And the bear's Hibernate (most bears get it at lvl 4, some at 15) gets you life while you run and grab a snack.
Once you hit 25 with your bear, you can level up other pets easily while watching TV. Start with your 'needs leveled pet, do one move (stun if possible, otherwise some that debuffs the enemy or buffs your team (not just the pet). Then switch to the bear. If the bear has Roar, Hibernate, and Rampage. At the start of a battle, if your health is low, use Hibernate, then use Roar (if you are stunned here, use it again), followed by Rampage. Then rinse and repeat. The only issue occurs if you are stunned on the first turn of the Rampage, then just use Roar until Hibernate is off cooldown.
You can easily use this strategy to level while watching TV as you have 2 moves that go for 3 rounds each. With the 10% safari hat and a 3 hour night of watching TV, i can normally get 2 pets to 25, with minimal effort.
Since there are no high level Mechanical pets, anywhere in Pandaria works, but i personally like Valley of 4 Winds, in the Heartland cause NPC scan goes off when Galleon Spawns, and there are a tons of battlepets around.

Hare
Don't be fooled by this timid little guy, he's a ferocious, speedy critter. He has tons of evasion skills, and he is a real powerhouse. If you want to go first pick this pet.

Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling: One of the best anti-magic pets available.
Breath does extra damage to Magic pets, while being Mechanical means it takes less damage from Magic attacks.
Flyby can increase that damage even more, while Bombing Run is nice bonus damage on a cooldown.
Definitely worth obtaining and upgrading via a Flawless Mechanical Stone.

Re: CONTEST: Pet Tips for Mini Tyrael!
The Emperor Crab (24-25 - Dread Wastes) is one of the best pets in the game and also one that you don't hear much about. A lot of people prefer using Aquatics with the Pump ability, like the Eternal Strider, but I find that too slow and like being able to set off a nuke on a timer and focus on keeping my crab up with it's excellent heals.
I've used it to solo several Pandaria tamers, something I haven't really been able to do with any other pet. It's also the Aquatic I used to beat down every Pandaria Spirit Tamer.
Surge - Lets you get the first shot in most fights, even if the enemy is faster.
Healing Wave - Powerful heal for about 30% of the total pet health bar.
Whirlpool - Powerful nuke that goes off in 2 turns.
I usually use Whirlpool, Healing Wave (if needed), Surge, Surge, repeat.
The best thing is you can get this pet at a high level so you can use it against the Pandarean Tamers if you get stuck on those battles.

zooey snake. By far this is the most versatile pet out there. You have problems with dragonkin in the panda spirit battles no problem, add one of the guys. counter strike can almost kill those pesky dragons, or knock them way down on the health meter. By far however is this ability i really love burrow. As soon as the timer of an ability clicks down to 1 press burrow. The ability will shield you saving you a lot of damage taken and then in turn the snake will send his damage back to the opponent. This ability has saved me many times against the kill combo of fireflux feline. when they get ready to go in for the kill burrow and the game is yours

Feline familiar
Aaah halloween, my favorite time of the year.
Witches, ghosts, monsters and ofcourse black cats with witch hats... wait what?
Yes you heard me! This pretty little guy has his own witch hat, but wait that's not it!
When you mount up he will fly beside you with his own magic broom!
A Magic broom?!
Yes! look at this http://i.imgur.com/7GwQhEu.jpg
Now we just need our own Witch hat.
And we are ready to party like witches!
*Drinks from her Witch brew*
Happy forever halloween everyone!

Re: CONTEST: Pet Tips for Mini Tyrael!
The Nordrassil Wisp is a seriously underrated pet for end game pet battles. His unbeatable speed lets you gain control of the battle sequence. I find him especially useful in both the Darkmoon Fair battle vs that horrid monkey and in all of the Pandarian Spirit fights.
Block any of the hard hitting abilities they toss at you with Soul Ward and keep them from landing any follow-up blows with Flash. Flash blinds the target, reducing their accuracy by 50% for 2 rounds. Finally use the Light. ability (it does double damage when they are blind) to whittle them down.
It may be a slow fight but, it works every time.

If you are planning on taming hard-to-find pets, like Lofty Libram or Anodized Robo Cub, and no spawns can be found, be sure to (gently) kill any nearby critters. Sometimes these elusive pets share spawn timers with their non-tamable brothers and sisters!

Diemetradon Hatchling
The tip for collecting the Infested Bear Cub works for the Diemetradon hatchling as well. When you arrive in Un'Goro, take a quick peek at which of the adult diemetradons have a baby out. Mark them with a raid marker so you don't forget and kill them. Then kill any that do not have a baby. The ones that have babies (the battle pets in question) will continuously respawn hatchlings about every 10 minutes. As other adults respawn, wait a moment to see if they spawn a baby. If they did, mark them too. If they didn't, kill them again. If you have no competition you can soon have every adult dino spawning a baby, and it makes it very quick and easy to find the rare you've been looking for.

Kirin Tor Familiar
This cool looking pet is a time consuming pet to obtain. There is a specific location for each school of magic book in Dalaran required for the achievement for the Kirin Tor Familiar.
If you log in after any server reset (weekly maintenance, random server restarts, crashes needing reboots, etc), every location that has a book should have a book spawned. They disappear after 3mins so you'll need to map a course to run around to check each location ASAP. Keep in mind the book that spawns may not be a school of magic for the achievement.
With characters being account bound, you can leave a character in Dalaran to immediately log into once the servers come back up and don't need to camp in Dalaran.

Dragonbone Hatchling
Thanks to Flying type and Adrenaline Rush, Thrash is guaranteed to hit 2-3 times for considerable damage. Add in Lift Off to dodge multi-turn attacks and a good mix of attack types, and Dragonbone Hatchling is quite formidable.
Additionally, it is pretty easy to catch a Rare one, since they are great to fight to level your other pets! Just to the East of Wyrmrest Temple in Dragonblight is a limitless supply of wild Dragonbone Hatchlings, within sight of a Stable Master at the temple

Flayer Youngling
This pet can be challenging to obtain (especially in blue form) but a trio of Flayers is pretty much an unbeatable PvP team (at least it is before 5.2). Multiple well-timed Reflections ensure your opponents' delayed attacks hurt them instead, and Rampage is a pretty rough attack even for non-Critter type pets. Also, because they're Humanoid, they gain a portion of health back each round. This includes when they're on the back row. So, constantly rotating your pets means your team is virtually immortal.
Reflection has been changed to Deflection in 5.2 so it remains to be seen how the Flayer's survivability is, but I'd imagine a trio of these will still be pretty tough to beat!
