Learning at a snails pace

Looking for battle and upgrade advice

I have a rare shimmer shell snail and an
UC version of a p/p rapana whelk
Is the whelk tough to get as a rare is my first question
since I have a critter stone to use

I'm wondering too if shimmershell is more
Used as a tank and rapana as a Dot pet

It seems many like the jade ooze as a dot pet

I have a crawdad to stall-heal with so any advice
on what pet is best for damage over time?

As a third I might go for control-claw/broom or giant bone spider

Don't use your critter stone on any pet you can catch as rare. It's possible to get a rare snail, just takes some time.

Jade Ooze (power breed) is the defacto DoT champion, but this is being reigned in greatly in 5.3 from what I've read they are taking most of the bonus damage away from Corrosion and adding it to the initial damage portion of the ability. I haven't PTR'ed to know, but I suspect this greatly demolishes his healing through absorb : \
